On behalf of the IKF Robert "Thunderlegs" Wilesmith was awarded the IKF Pro World Kickboxing Federation World Heavyweight Title by "Disqualification", due to an illegal Headbutt delivered by his opponent Mike Sheppard (USA) on Saturday 24th March, 2012 at Skilled Park Stadium, Gold Coast QLD Australia. At the time, IKF Head Referee Dan Stell (USA) missed the "Intentional" Headbutt that caused a "Huge" cut on Wilesmith's head in the 2nd Round. Up until the Headbutt incident, Wilesmith was leading the fight on points, outclassing Sheppard with leg kicks and close quarters combat punch combinations. Due to the blood rule, Referee Stell "Stopped" the fight in the 3rd Round, as the cut on Wilesmith's head was the size of a War Medal. Immediately after the fight, Wilesmith's Corner "Appealed the Decision", due to the intentional Headbutt by the American. It took 6 months for the appeal to be processed, and after Video evidence and other leading high ranking International Referees witnessed the video footage at all angles, it was conclusive that Mike Sheppard "Did" intentionally Headbutt Australian Fighter Robert Wilesmith. It was an "Unanimous Decision" to award Mr Robert Wilesmith the "New" IKF World Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion. On behalf of the IKF (International Kickboxing Federation), we wish to apologize to Robert Wilesmith, his family and friends for this wrongful decision. It was not our intension to miss intentional headbutts, but sometimes a few sneak through. Robert "Thunderlegs" Wilesmith (Australia) is the IKF Pro World Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion.
