Dear Members and Friends,
we had such spirited Spring Gasshuku here in The Alpine Region, my thanks to Taylor Sensei - New Zealand Dojo Cho and our Senior Karate ka from Queensland who attend, great to have everyone train with all Honbu Dojo deshi.
Thank you all.
This week we have started on extra training for Senior and Junior Members at Honbu Dojo, these will be our final grading's for the year.

Dean Maclaren07-04-2024RatedReport Review5Ryu Kyu Shuri TeThis traditional Dojo is a really a one of a kind, it has all the qualities of a Traditional Dojo as if it was in Okinawa or Japan. Hanshi OConnor has over 60 years of training experience, being a student of Takahashi Kentsu and Ichirou Ito Senseis. The teachings are as pure as they get. Hanshis knowledge is second to none. His gentle way of teaching is exceptional. I personally travel from Queensland at least once a year to receive instruction from Hanshi OConnor and wish I lived closer so I could train at Hombu Dojo more often. If you are genuinely interested in learning a proper traditional Art with an unbroken lineage going back to the bodyguards of the Okinawa Royal Family, then contact Hanshi. You will be blown away right from the first class.

To be accepted into the dojo to train in the art together is rewarding and fulfilling and Hanshi sensei is the perfect guide to lead dedicated students in their learning. My 8 year old son and I love our training and learning about our art while progressing our grading in a kind and understanding way. We are happy to have found this dojo and will continue throughout our life of learning our art. With respect Jarrod

Hanshi’s love of the art, traditions and his students shines through every lesson. We both completed our orange belt grading and now look forward moving onto training for our Green. We are both honoured to be learning under such a great teacher. His kindness , respect and encouragement of the younger students and the patience he shows with the older (more mature) students makes for a wonderful environment in the dojo.

He has developed self confidence and friendships through the school. I have also joined the class to continue my martial arts journey later in life. I consider myself to be very lucky to have an opportunity to learn from such an experienced teacher. it is also very rewarding to see the development of the all students in the class. Beau Dalwood06-10-2015RatedReport Review5extraordinary journey of heart and mindI have been studying Takahashi-ha no Ryuky Shuri-Te in the Mount Beauty area for over four years now. Training has brought upon immense and vital changes within myself that allows me to tackle the uncertainties of adulthood. The teachings of the way of traditional karate-do fosters more than just physical achievement, but also the skills and confidence to strive for educational and personal excellence. This traditional karate-do has not taught me how to fight or how to use violence without cause. Instead it has guided me on how not to fight and the self-esteem to not to give in to violence. However, it has expanded the know how and the courage for if a time did call upon for my own protection or the protection of someone else that i would be fully able and have the valour for self defence. A traditional art, like this one teaches the traditions and customs of the original cultures of Japan and Okinawa. I have learnt from traditional customs and manners to language and history. Chris06-10-2015RatedReport Review5A Must!My 10 & 12yo children have attended Takahashi-ha no Ryūkyū - Shuri-Te Karate-Dosince since the beginning of the year. 10th Dan Hanshi O'Connor is gifted & patient teacher in the traditional martial arts forms. My daughter & son have gained confidence, respect & skills for lifetime & will continue to learn from his teachings. For me, it has been an incredibly positive experience, and I have gained so much, both physically and emotionally in this short time. As a senior (over 18 yrs) I have the pleasure of training with the Juniors for the first hour of every class. I have watched our younger students grow also. Our classes encourage humility and respect whilst building confidence, courage and self awareness. Great skills to take into all other aspects of life.
