沖縄剛柔流空手古武道

Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate and Kobudo (OGRK); located in Sydney, Australia; practices a traditional Okinawan-style of karate (Goju Ryu) - developed by Chojun Miyagi Sensei. The dojo also integrates the art of Okinawan Kobudo, in reference to the traditional ancient teaching of the styles in a combined manner.
The mission of OGRK is to preserve the art of Karate and Kobudo in its original form, while exploring the philosophy of the two martial arts. Chojun Miyagi Sensei believed that “the ultimate aim of karate-do was to build character, conquer human misery, and find spiritual freedom”.
OGRK believes wholly in this philosophy, hoping to bring the teachings of Miyagi to Australians in an educational, fun, and inclusive setting. Karate is not only a martial art, or an application of self-defense, but an activity that develops resilience, strength, and a sense of presence.
Aligned with Miyagi’s belief that self-defense must be balanced with “training the mind, or cultivating the precept karate-do ni sente nashi (‘there is no first strike in karate’)”, OGRK also hopes to emphasise the importance of strength of mind as an integral part of the karate-learning process.
There is no right time or specific reason to begin training in the ancient martial arts of karate or kobudo. The development, learning process, and overall journey of each student will be unique. OGRK encourages the introduction, or reintroduction, to Japanese martial arts at any point in life, knowing that any and all individuals are able to become karateka.
