The Nagle Centre for Youth was officially established in 1997, to answer a significant need for families and children in the Campbelltown area. Our aim is to provide support, empower families and offer opportunities for children aged 6-12 years, who experience chronic disadvantage and a range of vulnerabilities by providing free children's camps that are held at the Berry Sport and Recreation Centre. These camps help to increase socialisation skills, offer positive time out, encourage healthy lifestyle, reduce isolation and build resilience.

Each camp consists of a maximum of 12 children and up to 8 volunteer leaders thus allowing us to offer children one to one support. Some of the children who attend our camps come with specific diagnosis such as Autism, ADHD, Oppositional Defiance Disorder and in many cases have or are still experiencing trauma.

Other key components or our program include:

Mentor Scheme - that uses the skills of around 50 volunteers per year who become mentors and positive role models for the children. All volunteers must have a current working with children check, receive training and be familiarised with our policies and procedures.

Family follow-up days - are held for children, their families and leaders. Follow-up days are usually held 6 week after camp on a Sunday and held at the local bowling alley for lunch and bowling. At follow-up days children are presented with their own photo record of their time at camp. These days provide opportunities for fun, social inclusion, family bonding and networking.

Collaboration with other agencies is a major part of our program in developing partnerships and working with other services who focus on the needs of our families.

Social Justice - is a guiding principle for this project and we facilitate and speak at a number of schools. This enables an increased understanding and awareness of communities where poverty and disadvantage impact on the lives of children and families
