IsIce Skating a great activity for your kid(s)?

Do your kids have energy to burn? Don’t want to exercise in the heat? Ice skating might be the sport for them! Your kids can get plenty of exercise, develop lower body and core strength and keep cool at the same time.

Other benefits of ice skating may be:

Is your child afraid of getting a few bumps and bruises? Although ice skating is generally considered safe, the odd fall is inevitable so if your child is the nervous type they may be better suited to kids activities that are a bit more stable.

Get your kid to start learning Ice Skating!

Not sure what age to start? Kids as young as three can have a go at ice skating on an indoor rink although they probably won’t have the co-ordination to perform any sophisticated moves until they are at least four or five. It is a good idea to stay within arm’s reach of very young children, or hold their hand until they are confident skaters.

Is your child interested in learning more? Group beginners ice skating lessons are available at most ice rinks and will generally cost around $15 - $30 per lesson which includes skate hire. Individual tuition costs more but is good for kids who are a bit older or more experienced and want to take their skill development seriously.

Are you worried on your child getting injured? Concerned parents can buy protective gear including helmets and knee pads to help safeguard against injuries. Don’t forget to outfit your child to stay warm but keep clothing layered and lightweight so it doesn’t impede your child’s movement.

If your child is not the figure skating type, there are plenty of other activities for kids at the ice skating rink. Ice hockey is a fast and highly competitive sport and speed skating is becoming increasingly popular. Many ice rinks hold social events such as ice discos and parties as a chance for kids to have fun and make new friends.

Ice Skating stars and events not to be missed?

The Australian figure skating championships are held in December every year and are a great chance to see local stars such as National 2010 figure skating champion and Olympic team member Cheltzie Lee in action.

Get your kids involved in this great sport for a chance to have fun and improve their fitness!

Will Your Kids Enjoy Doing Yoga?

Do your kids spend too much time slumped on the lounge? Are they stressed, anxious or hyperactive? They might benefit from trying yoga.

Practicing yoga postures is believed to have a number of positive effects on kids including:

Kids of any age can try yoga!
There are even yoga classes for babies so whatever age your child is, there’s no excuse not to give it a try. Children who prefer activities that are more ‘rough and tumble’ might prefer a sport but Yoga is already quite physically demanding, and will make your child sweat a lot (do not forget to ensure they are sufficiently hydrated before a yoga class).

How Can You Organise Yoga Lessons and Events for Your Kids?

Kids yoga classes are available all over Australia. Check in our ActiveActivities Directory to find your closest yoga school. A yoga class will usually cost around $10-$20 per session and often run during school term times. Book early to make sure your child doesn’t miss out!

What should your child wear for a yoga class?
Comfortable loose fitting clothing is ideal. Make sure long hair is tied back and don’t worry on shoes as yoga is done in bare feet. Your child might need their own mat or you may be able to hire one from your yoga school.

If you can’t find a good yoga school in your area, your child might enjoy similar kids activities like meditation, or other posture based activities like tai chi which can also have beneficial effects and may help kids to calm down and focus their minds. For anxious kids, yoga can almost be a form of therapy, teaching them techniques to handle their anxieties and improve their self-confidence.
For calmer, more serene kids, give yoga a try!

Is bodyboarding for your kid(s)?

Do your kids love the water? If they enjoy splashing around in the waves, they might love to try bodyboarding. This kids activity is a great way for kids to get used to waves and build their confidence in the water and its great exercise too! Some other benefits include:

Not sure what age to start? Kids can start playing with a small bodyboard in the water at any age and progress to using it properly whenever they are confident and ready. Bodyboarding lessons usually start at around age 6 or 7 and cost around $50 a lesson for casual classes.

Supervision is essential when kids are in the water. When bodyboarding it’s important to be aware of the safety risks posed by currents, rips, large waves and adverse weather conditions. It’s a good idea to start bodyboarding on a patrolled beach in a sheltered area and make sure a responsible adult is always close by. In cold weather, your child might need a wetsuit.

Get your kids to start bodyboarding!

Do you live near the beach? Why not arrange a first bodyboarding lesson for your kids? Check out our ActiveActivities Directory for a local surf school. If your child and their friends are keen bodyboarders, or just love the beach, they might enjoy taking part in some bodyboarding activities for kids. Adult supervision is essential and it is a good idea to have a trained lifeguard on hand. Your local surf school might offer a group session, which is probably a better bet than trying to supervise a number of children in the surf at once!

To get your kids started they will need a bodyboard, leash and possibly a wetsuit. A bag to carry their bodyboard in is useful, as are fins to help them develop speed once they get up their confidence. Why wait? Take your kids to the beach to discover this fun and exhilarating sport!

Practice of kindness At the heart of yoga is loving-kindness towards ourselves, others and the world around us. One of my favorite class activities is the loving-kindness meditation. The kids send their loving-kindness out into the world, to those they love and those they don’t. This kind of awareness helps build positive relationships with others. It also avoids unintentional hurtful comments that could be seen as bullying. Cultivating self-belief The learning curve at Primary School for many is steep. It can be easy for children to lose confidence during this time. In kids yoga we practice balancing poses. When kids are learning them they fall over – a lot. Yoga teaches kids that it is OK to make mistakes; it’s how we learn and grow. Kids who practice yoga become resilient; they connect with their inner strength and know they can achieve their goals through patience and perseverance. Managing emotions Starting school is a big milestone. For some it can be scary. For others it can be frustrating when they can’t always do what they want to do.

Yoga helps kids to identify their emotions. We practice breathing techniques that calm the mind. They understand that emotions will come and go and they can control how they respond when a strong emotion comes calling. Kid’s yoga increases emotional self-regulation. Connecting with others Some kids will be going to a school where they don’t know anyone. Kids yoga builds confidence, it also celebrates the differences between people. Through partner and group work kids develop trust in one another. When we create group human mandala’s, the kids support each other to create the shape. They become non-judgmental and accepting of the limitations of others. They gain a sense of achievement through supporting each other and working together. Kids yoga classes can do much more for school readiness than create a strong body to carry an enormous school bag. It is wonderful to see so many preschools adding yoga to their curriculum.

Many Primary Schools also see the benefits of kids yoga and have classes available during and outside school hours. By offering a blend of academic and socio-emotional skills we give our children the best possible start in this new chapter in their lives.

Is playing the ukulele right for your kids?

If you're looking to nurture your kids' musical talents at an early age, consider introducing them to the ukulele for kids in Sydney. Due to its small and lightweight body, the ukulele is easy for kids to handle. Because of its small size, it is highly portable, so if your kids are constantly on the go they will have no trouble bringing their instrument along with them.

The ukulele belongs to the string family of instruments, meaning players need to strum or pluck strings in order to produce sound. Most ukulele strings are made of nylon, which is gentle on a child's soft fingers.

There are various kids activities in Australia that will help your children learn more about the ukulele, such as the Melbourne Ukulele Festival, the Blue Mountains Ukulele Festival, and the Cairns Ukulele Festival. Taking your kids to events like these may inspire them to be patient and work hard at improving their skills.

Some reasons to get your kids playing the ukulele:

Get your kids to start playing the ukulele!

Toddlers age one and over can begin ukulele lessons. Because kids can begin playing the instrument at a young age, they will be able to develop their perception of pitch and rhythm early on, making them more skilful musicians in the long run. As your child gets older, they might like to consider other options, such as guitar for kids or banjo for kids.

The first step when starting the ukulele is choosing which instrument to buy. There are four standard types of ukulele: soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. Most beginners start with the soprano variety since it is the most traditional type and also the smallest.

Ukuleles come in a variety of designs, but it pays to check if the sound quality of the instrument is good. Check which type of wood was used for the ukulele's body, since different types offer different tonal characteristics. Read plenty of reviews online and try as many ukuleles for kids as possible in order to find your kids' perfect fit.

There are many ukulele classes and lessons for kids in Sydney available. Choose an instructor who can accommodate your child's schedule and comes recommended as an effective and patient teacher for kids. Some instructors can provide certifications for their skills. In Australia, lessons may range from $30 to $50 per session. Check the ActiveActivities directory to find an instructor near you.

When you attend a Rhee Tae Kwon Do training session, no matter how hard the training session is, you always leave the Dojang feeling better than when you first arrived! This is because exercise releases many mood regulating chemicals into your body, like endorphins, that lift your mood and make you feel good. As you progress in your Rhee Tae Kwon Do journey, your physical improvement and positive self-perception will also result in a boost of self-confidence. Rhee Tae Kwon Do a great way to focus and channel your energy towards a noble pursuit, that continues to challenge your limits as you grow and improve.

Rhee Tae Kwon Do can help reduce stress and anxiety by encouraging you to constantly practice situational awareness and mindfulness. It helps train your mind to stay focused and attentive to its surroundings while remaining calm and alert. If we consider free sparring, you are focusing on your breathing, you are focusing on your distancing, spacing, control of your techniques, attacking and blocking, while you are reading your partner's moves, anticipating their attacks, blocking, side stepping, counter attacking, all the while you are listening to your instructor's feedback and instructions, paying attention to your surroundings so that you don't run into anyone around you or the wall behind you, while thinking about your next move, technique or sparring strategy and you just noticed that you will be sparring your best friend next! You do all this at once and without much thought! No wonder Martial Artists can handle multi-tasking and stressful situations more readily than many others!

How many times have you come to the Dojang with a goal or a target to accomplish? It could be as simple as "Today, I will improve my side kick", or it might be a short-term goal like "I will practice my pattern to perfection to be ready for the next grading", or a long term goal such as "I will get my black belt in 12 months".

No matter what your goal is, development comes from making and achieving these goals and being able to work through any physical or mental roadblocks ahead of you. Rhee Tae Kwon Do encourages every practitioner to find their hidden potential and accomplish goals that they never thought that they would be able to accomplish. Every training session it forces you to identify your areas of weakness and provides you with the tools to overcome them. This blueprint of personal development doesn't just work in the Dojang, but we are able to replicate it in our everyday lives and the confidence we gained in the Dojang is the same confidence that we tap into to make positive and important changes to our lives.

Just as the mind grows stronger and more resilient through challenges, our self-esteem also grows through overcoming challenges and being able to reach new levels of accomplishment and achievement. Rhee Tae Kwon Do is all about overcoming setbacks and breaking through perceived walls and not giving up, no matter how hard things get. Rhee Tae Kwon Do provides the building blocks to improve our self-esteem and making our minds think outside of the square.

Through regular practice of Rhee Tae Kwon Do, your self-control improves and so does the control over your mind and your emotions. I can name countless students that initially found training to be mentally and emotionally draining, but through perseverance and working with their Dojang Instructor and having a support network with other students and practitioners, they were able to overcome those self-set barriers. We all will experience growth in emotional maturity and resilience through training, resulting in reduced negative feelings, such as anger, fear or aggression and as a result provides a strong platform for self-knowledge, emotional stability and mental assertiveness.

While Rhee Tae Kwon Do can be a powerful tool for regulating your emotions and shifting your mental state, through empowerment and self-validation, what you get it out of it all depends on how much effort you put into it. This is where personal commitment, dedication and drive make a difference.

Begin with Research

Embarking on this journey starts with research. Take some time to explore the karate landscape in your local area. Start by searching online or asking fellow parents for recommendations. Websites like www.activeactivities.com.au offer a wealth of information on karate classes and instructors across Australia.

Check Qualifications and Experience

When it comes to karate, expertise matters. Look for Karate coaches & instructors who hold legitimate qualifications, such as black belts and relevant teaching certifications. Experience is another crucial factor. Instructors who have spent years honing their skills are more likely to provide effective and engaging lessons for your kids.

Visit the Dojo or Training Center

Before making a decision, it's essential to visit the dojo or training center in person. This allows you to get a feel for the environment and observe classes in action. Pay attention to the cleanliness, safety measures, and overall atmosphere of the facility.

Observe a Class

Observing a karate class provides invaluable insights into the instructor's teaching style and the dynamics of the class. During your visit, watch how the instructor interacts with the children. Are they patient, encouraging, and able to maintain a positive learning environment? This observation can give you a glimpse into how your child will be taught and motivated.

Communication Skills and Rapport

Effective communication is the cornerstone of successful teaching. A great instructor knows how to communicate with kids in a way that's clear, engaging, and relatable. Engage in a conversation with the instructor to gauge their communication skills and how well they connect with children. A positive rapport between your child and the instructor is essential for a fruitful learning experience.

Safety First

Safety is paramount, especially when it comes to activities involving physical contact. Inquire about the safety protocols and measures in place within the dojo. A responsible instructor should prioritize proper warm-ups, stretching routines, and injury prevention techniques. Knowing that your child is in safe hands will provide you with peace of mind.

Seek Recommendations

Word of mouth is a powerful tool. Reach out to other parents in your community who have enrolled their kids in karate classes & Lessons. Their experiences and recommendations can be invaluable in guiding your decision-making process. Local sports organizations, schools, and community centers may also have insights to share.

Consider Class Size and Structure

Think about what class size and structure would work best for your child. Smaller classes can offer more personalized attention, while larger classes may provide a dynamic group dynamic. Discuss these aspects with the instructor to find the right fit for your child's learning style and preferences.

Assess the Learning Environment

A positive and supportive learning environment is essential for your child's growth. Talk to the instructor about their teaching philosophy and approach. How do they motivate and inspire their students? Are they focused on holistic development, encompassing not only physical skills but also character-building?

Trust Your Instincts

Ultimately, trust your instincts as a parent. If something doesn't feel right or align with your values, it's okay to keep searching for the right fit. Your child's karate journey should be an enriching and enjoyable experience, and finding the right coach or instructor is a crucial part of that equation.

The search for the best karate coach or instructor for your kids in Australia is a journey worth undertaking. With careful research, observation, and consideration of qualifications, safety measures, and teaching philosophy, you can ensure that your child receives top-notch instruction and guidance in their karate endeavors. Remember, it's not just about learning martial arts; it's about nurturing your child's potential and setting them on a path to personal growth and success.

If you're thinking about introducing your little ones to the exciting world of soccer, you're in for a treat. Soccer is not just a sport; it's an adventure that can teach kids teamwork, coordination, and the joy of physical activity.

So, lace up those tiny cleats and get ready for some fun! In this article, we'll guide you through some tips for starting kids in soccer, from finding the right soccer classes and lessons to nurturing their love for the game.

" ["content"]=> string(4705) "

1. Choose the Right Age

Before you sign your child up for soccer classes, consider their age. While soccer is suitable for kids as young as three, it's essential to select an age-appropriate program. For toddlers and preschoolers, look for pre school soccer classes and lessons that focus on basic motor skills, such as dribbling and kicking. Older children can delve into more structured training and join soccer clubs.

2. Find the Perfect Soccer Club

In Australia, soccer clubs are as diverse as the wildlife, so there's no shortage of options. Research local soccer clubs in your area and visit their websites to get a sense of their programs. Look for clubs that emphasize fun and skill development for children. Ask other parents for recommendations, and consider visiting your local soccer club in person prior to signing up.

3. Gear Up for Success

Soccer isn't just about kicking a ball; it's also about safety and comfort. Make sure your child has the appropriate gear, including soccer cleats, shin guards, and a comfortable jersey. Don't forget a water bottle to keep them hydrated during practice. And if they're playing in sunny Australia, sunscreen and a hat are must-haves to protect their delicate skin.

4. Foster a Love for the Game

The goal here (pun intended) is to make soccer a lifelong passion for your child. Encourage them to watch soccer matches on TV or take them to local games to spark their interest. Talk to them about famous soccer players, show them exciting goals, and, most importantly, let them know that you're their biggest fan. Celebrate their victories, no matter how small, and be their cheerleader on and off the field.

5. Balance Is Key

While soccer is fantastic, it's crucial to strike a balance between sports and other activities. Make sure your child has time for schoolwork, hobbies, and downtime. Soccer should be a fun addition to their schedule, not an overwhelming commitment. This balance ensures that they stay enthusiastic about the sport and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

6. Set Realistic Expectations

Every child progresses at their own pace. Some may become soccer stars in no time, while others may take a bit longer to find their groove. Be patient and avoid putting too much pressure on your child to excel. Remember, the primary goal is to have fun and learn valuable life skills like teamwork and perseverance.

7. Encourage Practice at Home

Soccer isn't just about what happens on the field; it's also about what happens at home. Set up a mini soccer field in your backyard or even just a designated area where your child can practice their dribbling and shooting skills. Playing with them can be a fantastic bonding experience and a great way to stay active together.

8. Attend Games and Practices

Showing up to your child's soccer games and practices is a fantastic way to show support. It lets them know you care about their interests and progress. Cheering from the sidelines can also boost their confidence and motivation.

9. Embrace the Learning Curve

Soccer is a game of ups and downs, just like life. Embrace the learning curve and teach your child to do the same. Celebrate victories, but also help them understand that losses and mistakes are part of the game. Encourage them to learn from their experiences and keep moving forward.

In Conclusion

Starting your child in soccer is a fantastic way to introduce them to physical activity, teamwork, and a whole lot of fun. Whether they're joining soccer classes, practicing in the backyard, or playing for a local club, remember that the journey is as important as the destination.

So, Aussie parents and caregivers, grab that soccer ball, put on your soccer mom or dad hat, and watch as your child kicks their way into a world of adventure, skill, and friendship. Soccer is more than just a sport; it's a journey that can shape your child's character and create memories that will last a lifetime. Enjoy the game, and most importantly, enjoy watching your child grow into a confident, active, and happy individual through the beautiful game of soccer!

Are movie theatres a great activity for your kids?

Going to the movies is a popular family activity. With a huge number of different films to choose from and a movie theatre located in most towns, going to see a movie is usually a fun and convenient form of entertainment. Movies are enthralling for kids of any age and they can have great educational benefits too.

In addition to your standard movie theatre, there are a number of different options for viewing movies in a more fun or spectacular way including:

Be aware that these special cinemas tend to cost a bit more than usual, but are really great kids birthday party ideas regardless. More fun, more spectacular, they also may be more informative, educational and less violent than blockbuster movies. You may be able to view animation movies, documentaries or sports shows that are exclusive to those particular types of cinemas.

Most children will enjoy going to see a movie but very young or extremely active children may find it difficult to sit still for the entire duration of a full-length feature film. Babies in a cinema can be a distraction to other moviegoers, but most large cinemas offer special ?mums and bubs' sessions during the day for parents to bring their very young children without having to worry on disturbing other patrons in the movie theatre. You might also want to avoid 3D movies for sensitive kids or kids with glasses, as they can sometimes provoke eyestrain and headaches, and so kids just don't want to wear the 3D goggles.

Be careful which movie you take your kids to watch! Movies are rated according to their content, and movies considered unsuitable for young children will probably be labelled as ?M' or ?MA'. Movies that are aimed at kids will be ?G' or ?PG'. Some PG movies may be inappropriate for very young children as they could contain frightening material or more advanced themes. so it is important to do your research before you buy your tickets.

A movie theatre generally has a kiosk where you can purchase food and drinks, including popcorn, lollies and ice cream. Some upmarket venues have special premium areas where you can buy light meals. Other kids' activities can often be found in movie theatre complexes including video arcades, bowling alleys and sometimes even ice skating rinks. Many cinemas are located in shopping malls, making them very convenient for parking and eating.

How to organise a trip to the movie theatre

Most major theatres are open all year round although a smaller movie theatre may have limited hours of operation so it is a good idea to check first and make a booking, particularly on public holidays. You can find a list of films and show times online or displayed in the foyer of the cinema. Check for movie theatres contact number or website in ActiveActivities directory.

Movie tickets usually cost around $14 for adults and less for children. Most major cinemas offer special rates on Tuesdays as well as loyalty programs and family ticket discounts. Be careful: You are not usually allowed to take outside food and drink into a movie theatre.

So, of course you want to take the kids to the movies! It's just a question of what kind of film they like and whether you want to treat them to one of the special screens. Happy viewing!
