They're not quite old enough yet for teenage-style parties but too old for things like soft play centres.
As your kids get older, it might feel a bit daunting to plan and throw a great party for them, but we’ve got you covered.
Here are some tips for planning the perfect children’s party:"
["content"]=>
string(3123) "
Who should I invite?
The guest list can be difficult, as inviting too many children can blow your budget and make it harder to plan activities.
First, work out a budget for the party, and how much the cost-per-head will be, before drawing up a guest list. Having too many children around can also be a bit overwhelming for the birthday child, so consider keeping the guest list to close friends. A dozen or so guests is usually ideal for pre-teen parties.
Next, you’ll need to lock in a theme so you can put together the perfect invite.
Getting the theme right
Children tend to develop strong ideas about what they want as they get older, so chat with them about the party to get them interested and involved.
Some kids will want a themed party based on their favourite movie or TV show, or they might want to do something specific with their friends. Once you've got some inspiration direct from the source, you can begin thinking about the best ways to bring their party to life and craft a day they’ll never forget.
Bringing the party to life
Never assume that a group of children will entertain themselves. Not providing enough entertainment is a sure-fire recipe for disaster. Think about how long the party will last and how long each activity will take. It's always better to have too much planned for a party than not enough, so make sure the entertainment is at the heart of your party planning.
You could:
Hire a professional party entertainer to keep the kids engaged
Set up activity stations (e.g. tables with games, toys or craft tables)
There are also great venues you can book, which offer professional entertainment and plenty of fun activities that kids will love.
Keeping the energy levels high
So now you’ve got your guests, theme and venue worked out, you need to make sure everyone has the fuel they’ll need to keep the party going strong.
Nothing is more difficult to control than a room full of hungry children, so consider timing lunch or dinner early into the party. Make sure you ask parents to RSVP with details of any food allergies, and choose a wide variety of foods so that picky eaters will find something to enjoy.
Planning your child's party can be a bit of a minefield, so it's important to plan as far in advance as possible, to think about the needs of your child's guests, and to make sure things are well organised. Of course, the birthday child comes first so think about the things your child likes, and then start planning for a crowd.

Will Your Kids Enjoy Inflatable Equipment for Their Birthday Parties?
Do your kids love to climb, bounce and slide? They will probably love inflatable equipment. If you have a backyard, why not consider hiring a bouncing castle for their next party? You could be even more adventurous and get an inflatable water slide, or both! Hiring inflatable equipment for kids' birthday parties, or other parties or events where kids' activities are needed can a great way to keep them occupied.
Most inflatable equipment is recommended for children under 13 although very small babies may be at risk of being jumped or stepped on. Supervision by a responsible adult is essential at all times. Make sure kids take their shoes off and for safety reasons don't let them perform somersaults or climb up the sides of equipment.
Does your child prefer quiet sedentary activities for kids? They could find bouncing castles and water slides overwhelming so it might be worth considering something quieter like an arts and crafts party or a magic show. Slides and jumping castles have a tendency to hype kids up so be prepared for lots of noise and chaos!
What Kind of Inflatable Equipment Should You Get for Your Kids' Birthday Party?
Not sure what inflatable equipment would be best for your kids' party? Consider the size of your backyard and number of guests when making your decision. There are a number of different inflatable play equipment options including:
Jumping castles - great for all ages and varying in size. They usually cost around $200 for 4 hours.
Inflatable slides - usually part of bouncy castles. Cost: around $240 for 4 hours hire.
Inflatable obstacle courses - have a series of challenges for kids to complete including tunnels, climbing obstacles and ball pits. Cost: around $200 for 4 hours.
Water slides - stand-alone slides that feature water. Cost around $200 for 4 hours.
Ball pits - inflatable pit filled with plastic balls for kids to throw and jump into. Cost: around $150 for 2 hours.
Inflatable equipment can keep kids entertained and having fun for hours - meaning parents can relax and enjoy their child's special day!

It’s that time of the year again .. ..yes, your child’s birthday is around the corner and you haven’t planned anything yet.
Every year your childs birthday party seem to become an event that has bigger and better expectations every year. The same predicament flies through your head should I have it at home and risk children flying everywhere and making a huge mess or should I host it out of the house that may cost more?
1) Remember your budget, and stick to it
It’s important not to lose sight of your budget. Don’t let the party get bigger than your wallet. Usually you think that by having the party at home you are saving costs, but by the end of the day, you realise you have overspent, exhausted, and have a huge mess to contend with. You’ll be surprised at how cost effective and easy throwing a party off-site can be. Start off by working out how much you actually want to spend on the party before you do anything else. Keep those expectations close to you from start to finish and if you feel you are going over in one area, reign in financially on another."
["content"]=>
string(2152) "
2) Organise the party outside
Every child and parent loves being outside in fresh air. Firstly, it’s healthy and usually includes some form of exercise for the kids. It’s also a hassle-free alternative to hosting it inside your home, when more often time than not, the clean-up process could be a lot longer than the party itself! 15 kids under 5 running through your home could get messy so wear the kids out by playing games outside.
A couple of ideas could be a round of Mini Golf or how about hiring a jumping castle? These are both outside and stress free activities… whilst you and the parents sit back and enjoy that second (or third!) piece of cake.
3) What does your child want?
Kids have big imaginations, so be specific when asking your child what they want out of their party. Ask them what theme they’d like everything to be or what they’d like to do with their friends. Answering questions like these will give you an idea of what’s really important and stimulate ideas for venue, invitation and food options. Jumping castle’s, dodgem cars, or a trampoline centre could be ideas to put forth.
4) Make a bullet point list!!
Writing a list will help you sort out logistics, what you need, how many etc. Party favours,
decorations, guest list, invitations and presents – all these things that make your party come to life are important, but easily forgotten.
5) Have fun
Probably the most important point! The party isn’t a day for you to be pulling your hair out. Now that all the nitty-gritty of the planning process is complete, sit back and watch your party masterpiece play out, with cake in hand, and enjoy your child growing that year older.

["content"]=>
string(2152) "

Will Your Kids Enjoy Jumping Castles at Their Party?
Is your son or daughter always on the move? If they love rough and tumble kids' activities they will probably enjoy a jumping castle at their party. Children who are nervous or timid might find bouncy castles a bit frightening or overwhelming so consider a quieter party activity for them.
Is your child a Cars fanatic? With a number of themes and designs available, you can add to the enjoyment by choosing your child's favourite character. Options include:
Cartoon and movie character inflatables. Whether your kids want to bounce 'to infinity and beyond' or jump in a Disney princess castle, there will probably be something for them;
Sports inflatables with basketball nets or other sport themes;
Gymnastic inflatables with obstacles for an additional challenge;
Playhouse inflatables can often include ball pits and slides;
Indoor inflatables - if you don't have a big backyard you can get a miniature jumping castle for inside the house.
Jumping castles are usually suitable for children up to 13 years but it is important that they are supervised constantly by an adult. Other safety rules usually include no somersaults or climbing up the sides.
What's the Best Way to Organise a Jumping Castle for Your Next Kids' Party?
Not sure where you can hire jumping castles? Check online to find an operator in your area. Jumping castles usually costs around $200 for 4 hours. Don't forget to make sure you have enough space in your backyard and allow for set up time before the party starts.
Does your child have a birthday in the middle of cyclone season? Jumping castles are best for sunny days, or light rain. Many operators will cancel if it is excessively windy and pouring with rain so make sure you have a backup plan in case of bad weather.
Jumping castles combine fun and fitness and can be an excellent activity for birthday parties and other events where activities for kids are needed.

Preschool Music for Kids
Is your child in preschool? Make sure that they learn preschool music! Music education is essential in a kid’s early learning. They learn to speak and understand their native language through songs and nursery rhymes. Not everyone will grow up to be great singers, composers, or musicians, but every kid should be taught how to sing and to appreciate music in general. Things are also easier to learn and remember if they are sung – take the Alphabet Song and Ten Little Indians for example. In every toddler’s school, preschool music is present in their classes. Dancing and singing kids songs are included in almost every kids activity in school. It is a great way to learn and have fun at the same time. Introduce music to your kids while they are young!
Is preschool music for your kids?
Studies have shown that preschool music is very important in early childhood development. It has a lot of benefits besides entertaining kids.
Social and Emotional Skills
Music intelligence helps develop a kid’s social and emotional skills. It is also a good outlet for self-expression when they grow up. You can identify a person’s feelings depending on the songs they listen to.
Academic Excellence
Kids who are active in music education do better in reading, math, and science.
Self-confidence
Preschool music helps kids to be more outgoing and also gives them higher self-esteem.
Awareness Kids activities involving singing and dancing help kids recognize different sounds and movements. Through music kids also learn more about their culture. Teach them songs from Australia like Happy Little Vegemites and The Possum.
Get your kids to start preschool music!
Kids can learn music as young as infants. Parents sing lullabies to their babies to put them to sleep. When they get older, they learn by listening to their favourite songs until they learn the lyrics by heart and sing along to those songs. They can even learn how to play musical instruments to develop their motor skills and coordination. At around 3 years old, you can enrol them in preschool music programs to build their musical foundation. These programs are available in preschools and day care centres and music schools. In these classes they are taught how to sing, dance, and interact and make friends with other children. Here are some preschool music activities that your kids will enjoy:
Heads, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes – Kids learn their different body parts by singing this song while pointing to the respective body part mentioned in the lyrics.
Name That Tune – This is a game where the memory of the kids is tested. A nursery rhyme is played or sung by the teacher and the kids try to guess the title of the song.
Old MacDonald’s Farm – This song teaches kids the different kinds of farm animals as well as the sounds they make.
You can browse our ActiveActivities Directory for more helpful tips and resources regarding preschool music and other topics.
Encourage your kids to foster an appreciation for music. Get them to participate in preschool music classes! Who knows, they might grow up to be great singers and musicians!

Are Volleyball School Holiday Activities For Your Kid(s)?
School holidays in Australia give your kids plenty of time to join team sports camps for kids and engage in other health and fitness activities for kids.
Benefits of joining school holiday volleyball camps include:
More intensive training Volleyball school holiday activities for kids offer more intensive training rather than the training your kids can get at home. Students are normally required to perform more drills that sharpen their fundamental skills, helping them be more competitive in the sport.
Get kids to train under coaches with high credentials Having a skilled coach to teach your children will greatly sharpen your kids’ skills and also cultivate their passion for the sport. Some established coaches also use sports camps for kids as a place where they can find new talent to join professional teams.
Join official volleyball tournaments Volleyball school holiday activities usually involve joining friendly competitions that give your kids more experience playing seriously. Playing in a backyard with friends is fine, but if your children truly want to improve their skills and their mentality for the game, it’s better to join volleyball sports camps for kids.
Get Your Kids to Start Joining Volleyball School Holiday Activities!
Kids from ages 6-13 can start joining school holiday volleyball camps for kids. Toddlers are not encouraged to join until they are older. If you’re looking for sports for kids that will not exhaust your kids’ energies too much, volleyball is the way to go. It is also a non-contact sport, so it’s one of the safer kids activities.
Volleyball camps usually cost at around $200 for 18 hours of coaching over 3 days. See which holiday camps offer a good student-coach ratio and also look for volleyball clubs that have coaches who have a proof of their coaching skills.
There are many volleyball clubs in Australia. Check the ActiveActivities directory for more details on the different sports clubs in the country. Some volleyball camps offer beach volleyball during the summer, but indoor volleyball is good all year round.
Remember that it’s important to buy knee pads for your kids whenever they’re playing volleyball. Having knee pads will let them dig difficult balls without getting their knees scraped or hurt.
Put on your jerseys and let’s play!

Will your kids enjoyBadminton?
Are your kids bored with tennis? Do they want to try something a little different? Badminton is another racquet sport which is played on a court with a net and it might appeal to kids who are looking for an alternative to tennis. Kids can play as singles or doubles and choose to either play on a proper indoor court or informally in the backyard or at the beach. As well as being fun, playing badminton can help kids to:
Increase their fitness
Improve hand eye co-ordination
Develop tactical thinking
Make new friends
Increase self esteem
If kids are playing in the backyard it is a good idea to make sure there is enough space and any tripping hazards are removed from the area. Badminton can be enjoyed by kids of any age who are able to grip and swing a racquet but formal badminton tuition generally begins at around 4 or 5 years of age. It’s an activity that the entire family can play so it presents a great opportunity for parents to spend highly enjoyable quality time with children.
How can you organise Badminton lessons and matches for your kids?
Do you want to get your kids started with badminton? There are a few options for badminton kids activities including joining a badminton club, hiring a court, and players hitting a shuttlecock around in the backyard. Formal tuition is probably a good idea at the start, so kids have a basic understanding of the different strokes which include:
High serve
Low serve
Flick serve
Drive serve
Smash
Drop shots
Clears
Other things it is important to learn include footwork, correct grip and the rules of the game. Fun badminton activities for kids include ‘wild birdies,’ ‘blanket badminton’ and net play. Badminton has been played by families in backyards around the world for decades. Playing badminton can be fast and fun so why not let your kids give it a try?

Why is Sydney a great place for your kids to go cycling?
The bustling city of Sydney is home to one of the world’s greatest bicycle infrastructure for recreational riding. Apart from the world-famous Sydney Olympic Park, the government has been making a huge investment on Sydney bike routes, such as bike paths in parks and other cycleways. Public roads, which are dominated by motor vehicles, are also braved by cycling commuters who participate in the government’s effort to influence the growth of completed bicycle trips - from point A to point B and back. Sydney most likely has the most impressive growth of cycle groups in Australia because of the weather and the many bike-friendly zones.
Suffice it to say, cycling in Sydney is a way of life. Whether it’s for play or for sport, cycling events in Sydney happen year-round. Look at the toddlers or children next door who spend all afternoon on neighbourhood bike races or the well-organised Sydney cycling competitions for kids and adults. There is so much to cycling in Sydney that you and your kids can enjoy!
Cycling in Sydney is truly one of the best options for kids activities. If you have an uncertainty, consider going on a bike tour of Sydney with your family. If you don’t have a bike or enough bikes, Sydney bike hire is an option for most families or groups who want to spend quality time without spending on high costs. Surely, you and your kids will be planning the next biking adventure soon after!
Here is a list of kid-friendly bike tracks in Sydney:
Balmoral Beach

Would your kids enjoy being part of a choir in Brisbane?
If you've noticed your kids are always singing in the bath or shower, and their favourite toys are the ones that play music, they might love to try one of the many kid's activities that includes singing! A choir is a great option for many reasons, and one of the best is that your children can meet others their own age and improve their social skills along with other qualities.
Also, one of the most prestigious choirs in Australia is the Brisbane Chamber Choir. If your kids dream of being singers, take them to see this exceptional group to inspire them!
Why are choirs in Brisbane great for my kids?
The best activities for kids combine fun, education, and improve their health in some way.
Singing is of course fun - toddlers right through to adults all enjoy music!
There are physical benefits to singing too - learning to breathe properly is good for the lungs, which improves circulation of oxygen around the whole body. Good physical health supports good mental health.
According to research, music uses the same part of the brain which does mathematical calculation - so not only are your youngsters learning an amazing skill, but it could even help them perform better in their studies at school! This in turn can do wonders for their self-confidence and general success in life.
The Queensland Youth Choir runs early childhood music classes for children up to the age of five. After this age kids can audition to become part of the group, which has members of all ages up to age 25.
There are also lots of other groups your youngsters can join for a sing-a-long: church choirs, school choirs, community choirs, and there are even separate boys choirs and girls choirs in some cases.
If you decide on music classes or lessons for kids, these organisations will be able to put you in contact with other youth choirs in Brisbane. Once their skills and confidence are polished, your kids may be interested in entering Brisbane singing competitions or even heats all around Australia! Competitions can be casual amateur affairs right through to the most prestigious events such as those run by the Brisbane Chamber Choir.
You should also ensure that your kids do other forms of exercise so that their bodies will support their love for singing. Healthy lungs are important and a great example of a kid's activity to improve lung fitness is swimming.
Check the ActiveActivities directory today for a full listing of places where your kids can start belting out tunes in Brisbane today!

string(729) "
If you've got a little soccer enthusiast in your family, you're in the right place. We know how important it is to keep the kids active and engaged, so we've gathered some fantastic soccer drills.
Dribbling Through Cones
Dribbling is a fundamental skill in soccer, and this drill is perfect for honing it. Set up a row of cones in your backyard or at the local park. Encourage your child to weave in and out of the cones while dribbling the ball. It's not just about speed; precision is key here. Soccer coaches and instructors swear by this drill to improve ball control."
["content"]=>
string(3636) "
Passing Practice
Passing is all about teamwork, and your child can practice it with a friend or even with you. Start with short passes and gradually increase the distance. Teach them the importance of accuracy and communication. This drill helps kids improve their coordination and understanding of the game. Soccer classes & lessons often include passing as a core component.
Mini-Goal Scramble
Create a mini soccer field in your backyard using cones or any markers you have handy. Divide the kids into teams and let them have a friendly scrimmage. The catch? Make small goals that are challenging to defend. This encourages quick thinking, agility, and goal-scoring skills. Soccer coaches love to see kids having a blast while learning.
Juggling Challenge
Juggling the soccer ball isn't just for circus acts; it's an excellent way to improve ball control. Start with the basics: have your child practice juggling with their feet, knees, and head. It might seem tricky at first, but with patience, they'll get the hang of it. Soccer clubs often organize juggling competitions to keep things fun and competitive.
Shooting Accuracy
Goal-scoring is the name of the game! Set up some targets in the goal, like hula hoops or cardboard cutouts of goalkeepers. Encourage your child to aim for these targets while taking shots on goal. This drill not only improves shooting accuracy but also builds confidence. Soccer coaches & instructors often include this in their training sessions to boost kids' self-esteem.
Obstacle Course Challenge
Create a mini obstacle course in your backyard or at the park. Include cones, hurdles, and even some agility ladders if you have them. Have your child navigate through the course while dribbling the ball. It's a fantastic way to improve their dribbling skills while having loads of fun. Soccer classes often use obstacle courses to keep kids engaged and excited about learning.
World Cup Tournament
Organize a mini World Cup tournament with neighborhood kids or family members. Assign each team a country and have a round-robin-style competition. The sense of competition and camaraderie will keep your child engaged and excited about soccer. Plus, they'll get a taste of what it's like to play in a real tournament.
Keep it Fun!
Remember, the most important thing is to keep it fun. Soccer is all about enjoying the game and learning important life skills like teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. Whether you're practicing in your backyard or joining soccer classes & lessons at a local club, the key is to foster a love for the game.
These soccer drills for kids come straight from the playbook of soccer clubs in Australia. They're not only a fantastic way to keep your child active but also to nurture their passion for soccer. Get out there, kick some balls, and have a blast!
And if you're looking for more soccer-related activities or want to find soccer classes & lessons near you, be sure to check out ActiveActivities. They've got a wealth of information to keep your child's soccer journey rolling! Now, get out there, kick some balls, and have a blast!

Soccer coaches and instructors swear by this drill to improve ball control."

string(3636) "

Is Wing Chun right for your kids?
Self defence is just one of the benefits of engaging your child or toddler in martial arts training. Your child will learn and develop a number of important skills while learning Wing Chun for kids.
All Wing Chun techniques are derived from Wing Chun forms. Wing Chun forms are meditative, solitary exercises that help develop self-awareness, balance, relaxation, and sensitivity. These forms train your kids in the fundamental movement and the correct force generation of Wing Chun. There are six forms your child will learn:
Three empty hand forms (SiuNim Tao, Chum Kiu, and BiuTze)
One "wooden dummy" form (Muk Yan Jong)
Two weapon forms (Yee JeeSeung Do and Luk Dim Boon)
Aside from Wing Chun techniques, some of the benefits your kids can acquire from Wing Chun training are:
Increased social interactivity
Improved self confidence
Increased willingness to stand up for oneself and others
Increased ability to accept mistakes and failures
Increased awareness of health and fitness
Improved oncentration
Improved sense of responsibility
Greater focus and control
Improved discipline
Improved teamwork skills
Improved coordination
The ability to release frustration and energy in a productive and healthy manner
Improved hand-eye coordination and speed
Inspiration to apply skills to other activities, including their studies
Wing Chun and other self-defence classes are recommended to address bullying in kids. Self-defence classes not only teach children to be able to defend themselves and their peers, they can also help those with bullying tendencies to learn about respect and managing their emotions, particularly anger.
Get your kids to learn Wing Chun!
Wing Chun is usually taught in martial arts schools that offer Kung Fu for kids. Be sure to choose the right school with a friendly, safe, and encouraging environment and round the clock supervision. As they progress through their belts, your children will feel a sense of accomplishment, improving the way they feel about themselves in the short and long term through this kids activity.
To make sure that you are enrolling your kids in a recognised school, it is important to check that it is accredited by an organisation like the Australian Wing Chun Federation. Most schools will provide the martial arts supplies and martial arts uniforms your child will need, and others will just require you to provide comfortable clothing for your child to participate in.
If you are looking for an alternative to Wing Chun, why not think about karate for kids? If you are opting for a softer martial art, then try tai chi for kids. Visit our ActiveActivities directory for more information and tips on martial arts for kids and other kids activities.
Lead your kids to the path of active and healthy lifestyle. Enrol them to Wing Chun for kids!

Squids Family Day Care would like to thank Reptile Encounters so much for an awesome show. The children had the best time and I would highly recommend this show to other Educators and Early Learning providers. We had 19 children aged from 3 and under and Bronte made sure they were all included and got to have a touch/hold of the animals. She answered all questions with patience and knowledge and was very good with the little people. We will definitely get you back for another show. So again thanks for an awesome experience, from Donna and the terronaughts xx
