Are libraries for your kid(s)?
Do your kids love reading? It can be expensive to keep buying books, so to save money they might love a membership of your local library. Your library contains books on a huge range of subjects and if they don’t have a particular book right there, they will order it for you. Libraries can open a huge window on the world for kids and often provide specific kids activities.
Libraries:
Give your kids a head start on education
Provide information on almost anything your kids might be interested in
Help stimulate your kids’ imaginations through reading fiction as well as non-fiction
Help advance your kids’ literacy and communication skills, increasing their vocabulary
Libraries are not only about books, there are toy libraries too! These days libraries and their books are accessible online. Libraries provide many digital sources of information, such as video and audio material.Libraries, also provide access to reading clubs and reading groups.
There is such a diversity of reading material in libraries (not only books but magazines and comic books) that all your kids are sure to find something to get absorbed in. Even young children who are not yet able to read can be entertained by a storytelling or nursery rhyme session.
While libraries are generally safe places, you’ll still need to keep an eye out to make sure your kids don’t make a lot of noise or drop heavy books and hurt themselves. Alternatively, many libraries have a website that you and your kids can access from home and download reading material that way.
Get your kids to go to a library next weekend!
Want to get your kids exploring amazing new facts 2012 is the Australian National Year of Reading so why not take them to your local library where membership is usually free. Museums, science centres and exhibitions may also have libraries associated with them which can be another fun reading avenue to explore! Check out our ActiveActivities Directory for your closest library, and library activities.

Why school holiday camps in WA are great activities for your kids?
Child care in WA, as well as other states of Australia, is the most important concern of every parent. It is important that kids grow up to be healthy and fully capable in all aspects Ð physical, mental, and emotional. School holiday camps in WA come in many forms, depending on your kids' interests. There are adventure camps and sports camps, and just about anything that includes activities for kids that will allow them to have fun, learn, and develop new skills in safe and supportive environment. School holiday camps are also places where kids can be themselves, where they can indulge in fun learning activities with other kids their age.
The most ideal school holiday to send your kids to school holiday camps is during the summer, as most camp activities are done in nature and require a dry weather. Some summer camps in Australia, including WA, are conducted by non-profit organisations and youth groups, such as the Boys and Girls Brigade, and the Scouts. School holiday camps can be day camps or overnight camps. Day camps are for primary age kids that last for a week, while overnight camps are for older kids.
Be it for recreational or educational purposes, there are school holiday camps in WA that will definitely suit your kids.
Art camps
Kids who show potential in the arts could attend either creative or performing arts workshops. Art camps have programs that focus on a particular area, such as handicrafts, painting, drawing, theatre, music, and dancing. There are also camps that focus on general creative and performing arts skills development. Art camps often have culminating activities that parents can attend.
Adventure camps
Adventure camps in WA often have specific themes that emphasise skill development and personal growth. Adventure camps often include exciting kids activities like hiking, camping in the woods, and other activities that teach survival skills.
Sports camps Sports camps offer instruction in a wide range of sports. Your kids can attend a sports camp that focuses on a specific sport to hone their skills or to learn a new sport. A multisports camp is also recommended to kids who are just starting to get into sports and are still finding out what sport might be the best for them.
Training camps
Training camps focus on developing leadership. This is the aim of most youth groups: for campers to develop life skills that enable them to grow into efficient and responsible citizens. Training camps have balanced programs so every kid, energetic and not-so-energetic, can participate and have fun.
Before enrolling your kids to any of the school holiday camps, there are some points that you need to consider first. In our ActiveActivities Directory, you can find a full list of available school holiday camps in WA. You can research about these camps to find out if they have round-the-clock first aid personnel available and trained adult supervision.
Don't think school holiday camps are for your kids? You can still provide them an unforgettable school holiday by taking them to theme parks, museums, beaches, and other notable places in WA that can be educational for kids, and at the same time, be enjoyable.
There are plenty of activities to keep kids entertained during the school holidays. Get them out and about with school holiday camps!

["overview"]=>
string(453) "
Beach sports are derivatives of original ground sports (and mainly ball sports), and are made to play in family, in a safer and "funnier" way than the original ones.
Accessible for kids of any age, and although it is most common not to keep score, and just try to have fun, some are played professionally. Clubs and international rules and events do exist for each one of these sports.

There are many different types of beach sports that are great kids' activities, including:
beach touch rugby, very close to Rugby League rules
beach volleyball, derivative from volley ball, it is usually played by two teams of two players (mixed or non mixed)
beach cricket, a great kids activity and a fun game the whole family can participate in
beach soccer, derivative from European Football, it is even closer to the Futsal than real soccer
It may be a good idea to get your kid starting a sport by trying the beach version of it, and see if he enjoys it. He will then make the choice to either keep on playing this particular one, or either stepping into the original version, as he gets older.
Summer may be the best time of the year to get your kids involved in beach sports, but try not to forget the sunscreen, the hats and some water! Even if they are usually played a softer way than the original sport, you may need some protection gear to ensure your kids do not get hurt by accident (in particular while playing beach cricket).
Many Australian beaches already have a variety of beach sports installations and offer free subscription to some regular events like beach volley games that in some places take place almost every week end of the year! It is a great way to meet new people and have a lot of fun.
Try to ask around - and especially the local surf livesaving club that may be aware of who is in charge of organizing games on the beach. Often the "regular" leagues (ie cricket, soccer and so on) also offer a beach sport option. They will also be able to give you the exact international rules.
With so many choices, it's easy to find a beach sport for your children!.
Are Beach Sports for your kids?
Beach sports are best for kids that enjoy the outdoors - and, let's face it, most do.
As outdoor activities, they are offering a large set of benefits including:
Learn water safety procedures
fitness: walk and run on the sand is softer but physically lot more demanding than running on other surfaces
Learn how to perform as a team player
Form friendships and create social bonds
Have fun
Gain confidence
Enjoy the fresh air
There is a suitable beach sport for children of all ages and fitness levels. Surf lifesaving clubs have nippers from 7 years and up (and some accept kids as young as 5). Check with your usual local club, or browse through the ActiveActivies directory to find the nearest one to you.
As for other beach sports, try your local recreation centre to find out what's in your area.
Get your kids started
Why not start off by taking the kids to the beach yourself and seeing what they might enjoy? Take along a bat and ball, or whatever gear you need and just do it. There's no need to keep score.
As mentioned above, contact your local surf lifesaving club or recreation centre to see what organised competitions are available in your area.
Beach sports don't require a lot of specific clothing ? none of those listed even require shoes - so there's no reason not to start now.
The costs to get involved in beach sports vary from minimal (just taking your kids to the beach!), up to a couple of hundred dollars to join nippers - depending on the club.
Stars and events not to be missed
The biggest beach sports in Australia are Surf Lifesaving and Beach Volley Ball.
There are also regular local competitions throughout the year ? check with your local club.
Surf lifesaving has produced several Iron Men, including Guy Leech and Grant Kenny, while Australia's female beach volleyball team of Kerri Pottharst and Natalie Cook won gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Are fancy dresses for your kids?
Studies have shown that kids activities like role playing – including wearing costumes and fancy dresses - have a long term benefit. Here are some:
Dress your kids with flair at the next party fancy dress party!
If your kids like dressing up and role playing, make their next party a fancy dress party! ActiveActivities will provide you with some great kids birthday party ideas, and party themes that will surely make your kid’s fancy dress party a hit.
A popular fancy dress party for girls is a Disney Princess party where they can wear pretty dresses while the boys can come as Princes or any Disney character they like. Other fancy dress party themes are masquerade and fairy themed parties. Put pretty decorations around your house like balloons and colourful displays. Should You Hire Clowns for Your Kids' Birthday Parties?
Have your kids ever been enthralled by clowns at the circus? If they have, they could be delighted with a visit from a clown entertainer at their next birthday party. Clowns can be a great choice for kids' parties because they keep the kids busy, get lots of laughs and play games with them. Clowns can often make the shyest kid collapse with laughter which can make them ideal party guests. They're suitable for indoor or outdoor parties so, if you're looking for activities for kids, a clown can be a good choice if the weather is uncertain and an outdoor kids' party may need to move indoors.
What else do clowns do apart from slapstick routines? Modern day party clowns will often:
Make balloon animals for kids;
Tell jokes and otherwise amuse kids with their antics and humour;
Juggle with balls or other objects;
Perform a magic show or other tricks;
Do face painting on the children;
Some children are afraid of clowns, particularly if they are very young and haven't encountered one before, so it is important to make sure your child isn't going to become distressed at the sight of their larger-than-life surprise guest. Kids who are very quiet and sensitive might need to be introduced to clowns beforehand at a community event or a circus to gauge their reaction.
How Do You Hire a Clown for a Kids' Birthday Party?
Not sure if you can afford a clown? Rates for professional kids' clowns usually start at around $150 to $200 an hour which includes games, activities and a show. You can find kids' entertainers online or ask some of the parents you know for recommendations. Make sure your home has enough space for all the kids plus whatever kids' activities your clown is planning. Alternatively, many kids' party venues are happy for entertainers to visit.
Not sure if a clown is what you want? Most kids' clown entertainers have a number of personas and can be pirates, cowboys, magicians and many other things, depending on what your child is interested in.
A little clowning around can be good for kids and adults alike. Why not invite a clown to your next party?

Is Ballet Dancing for Your Kids?
Ballet dancing is a physically demanding art form and requires physical and mental discipline and practice. It thus develops many skills and has numerous benefits, including:
Promotes strength, flexibility, coordination and balance
Helps posture in many children
Teaches skill, grace, poise, self-discipline
Fosters self-confidence and positive self-image
Promotes a love of the arts
Develops a passion for rhythm and movement
Encourages friendships with children of like interests
Get Your Kids Started!
In most cases kids do not start formal ballet lessons until the age of eight, though they can attend Pre School dance classes from quite young. Here they learn to enjoy music and may learn some basic ballet positions. Generally, these types of classes are more on fun and the parents seeing their child participating rather than them starting their formal ballet journey.
For children who seriously aspire to be dancers, The Australian Ballet School holds auditions in each of the major cities every year for after-school training of 8-13 year olds and for full-time training of 13 or 14 year old children.
What to look for when checking out a ballet school
Professional set-up
Qualified teachers and experience
Appropriate flooring and bars
Class size suited to your Childs needs
Reasonably prices
Follows Royal Academy of Dance syllabus
Enters the competitions that you are interested in competing in
As well as tuition fees, which vary with the school and the location but are usually in the vicinity of $15 a lesson, your child will need:
leotard - Around $15-30
tights? Approximately $10
ballet shoes - Around $20-30
A tutu may make your little girl look and feel like a ballerina but is not always compulsory.
Always check with the teacher before buying clothing; many schools have their own strict dress codes or follow those of the Royal Academy of Dance(RAD). Prices really can vary depending on quality and where you buy. Buying from the school is often convenient but can be more expensive.
Most little girls love pink, dancing and being a little ballerina. Most mums love seeing their daughters doing ballet. So get them dancing, no matter what age they start.
Events not to be missed
If your child has any inclination towards ballet, attendance at a live performance will certainly inspire him or her, though the Australian Ballet recommends that children be at least six years old to attend. Prices vary with the company, the performance, the location, seating, and any concessions available but are similar to those for opera and other live entertainment. Also keep an eye out for occasional free events, such as Telstra Ballet in the Gardens.
For all those reasons, Ballet Dancing is one of the ultimate kids activities!

Will your kids enjoyBadminton?
Are your kids bored with tennis? Do they want to try something a little different? Badminton is another racquet sport which is played on a court with a net and it might appeal to kids who are looking for an alternative to tennis. Kids can play as singles or doubles and choose to either play on a proper indoor court or informally in the backyard or at the beach. As well as being fun, playing badminton can help kids to:
Increase their fitness
Improve hand eye co-ordination
Develop tactical thinking
Make new friends
Increase self esteem
If kids are playing in the backyard it is a good idea to make sure there is enough space and any tripping hazards are removed from the area. Badminton can be enjoyed by kids of any age who are able to grip and swing a racquet but formal badminton tuition generally begins at around 4 or 5 years of age. It’s an activity that the entire family can play so it presents a great opportunity for parents to spend highly enjoyable quality time with children.
How can you organise Badminton lessons and matches for your kids?
Do you want to get your kids started with badminton? There are a few options for badminton kids activities including joining a badminton club, hiring a court, and players hitting a shuttlecock around in the backyard. Formal tuition is probably a good idea at the start, so kids have a basic understanding of the different strokes which include:
High serve
Low serve
Flick serve
Drive serve
Smash
Drop shots
Clears
Other things it is important to learn include footwork, correct grip and the rules of the game. Fun badminton activities for kids include ‘wild birdies,’ ‘blanket badminton’ and net play. Badminton has been played by families in backyards around the world for decades. Playing badminton can be fast and fun so why not let your kids give it a try?

What's great about a community centre?
Community centres for kids provide generous amounts of space for fun and learning. This is similar to many professional service providers for kids such as day care, amusement centres and games halls; however a significant difference with community centres is that they are often run without the goal of making any financial profit.
Community centres are often run by volunteers and local community groups. Often the aim is to encourage families to spend time together, which benefits everyone from toddlers right through to older children and adults. A community centre may double as a multi-function community hall, providing party venues, hall hire and good quality function rooms at a low cost to other non-profit organisations.
Very importantly, in regional and remote areas of Australia, a community centre may actually be the only venue which offers kids activities at a low cost - or at all. Not every town has a sufficient population to support multiple services, so it becomes even more vital for the local community to unite and take part in events which support the wellbeing of families and growing children.
Why should my kids get involved in community centres?
When there are fun and educational activities for kids on offer, there's no reason not to take advantage of it. But an added element to events being held at community centres is the fact that they will often be put on by community organisations which are raising money for a noble cause, such as terminal illness, local school equipment or victims of natural disasters.
Getting your kids involved in good-willed causes like these at school fetes or local community festivals are a great way to encourage selfless service, and nurture their values of generosity and compassion. They are often also a great way to spend quality family time together!
What should I do to get my kids into community centres?
Find out together what community programmes or community services are running in your local area, such as the Rotary group (this is one which is Australia wide). These organisations meet at community centres, so you can get involved with them, as well as checking out notice boards at the centre for other events and groups when you visit.
And of course, you can check the ActiveActivities directory right now for a full listing of community centres for kids all over Australia!

The Exciting World of Netball Tournaments
Hello, Aussie parents and carers! Are you new to the netball community or looking to get more involved in your child's netball journey? Well, you're in for an exciting ride. Netball tournaments and events are significant milestones in a young netballer's life, offering not just competition but also a chance for personal growth and community building. Let's dive into what these events entail and how you can support your child through them.
Understanding Netball Tournaments
Netball tournaments in Australia vary in format depending on the age group and level of play. Typically, they involve a series of games played over a day or a weekend, with teams competing in a round-robin format followed by finals. These tournaments are often organized by Netball Clubs, associations, or schools and can range from local friendly competitions to more competitive regional or state championships.Types of Events
Local Club Tournaments: These are great starting points for young players. They focus on participation and enjoyment.
School Competitions: Many schools participate in netball tournaments, which are excellent for fostering school spirit and teamwork.
Regional and State Championships: More competitive and require a higher level of skill and commitment. These are often pathways to higher levels of play.
Special Events: These can include charity games, themed netball days, and netball camps, offering a fun and different experience.
Preparing Your Child for Tournaments
Training and Skills Development.Regular training with their Netball Classes is crucial. Coaches will focus on skill development, team strategies, and physical conditioning to prepare players for the competitive nature of tournaments.

On the Day of the Tournament

There may be short breaks between games, and if the team does well, they could progress to the finals. Be there to cheer them on! Your presence means a lot. Bring along water, healthy snacks, and encouragement. Be positive and supportive, regardless of the outcome of the games.
Parental Involvement: Beyond Being a Spectator
Netball tournaments often need volunteers for various roles, such as timekeeping, scoring, or running the canteen. Your involvement can show your child the value you place on their interests.
Having a basic understanding of netball rules can make watching the games more enjoyable and help you support your child more effectively.
After the Tournament
Win or lose, it's important to celebrate your child's participation. Discuss what they learned, their achievements, and areas for improvement. It’s also a great time to acknowledge the effort of their team and coaches.

Why going to museums in Sydney is a great activity for your kids?
Sydney is home to many cultural institutions, museums, and historic sites; many of them are internationally known. These sites provide insights into a community's people, culture, art, and history. Sydney started as a convict settlement in 1788. Journey into the past and see some of Sydney's treasures at these world famous museums and galleries.
Australian Museum Where Australia's extinct and deadliest creatures are immortalised. The Australian Museum, the oldest of the museums in Australia, houses extensive collections of natural science and cultural artefacts, from preserved and stuffed animals, to minerals, fossils, and other anthropological collections gathered from the Pacific Islands, Asia, Africa, and America. The animal displays are very impressive as they have some of the most interesting species of animals in Australia. There is also the Indigenous Australia section where you can learn more about aboriginal culture and beliefs. Most museums don't allow their displays to be touched; but at the Australian Museum, kids are encouraged to touch, feel, or hold some of the displays, allowing for a more interactive learning experience.
Australian National Maritime Museum For your little voyagers and sailors, this museum is a must-visit. As Australia is surrounded by water, the oceans play major roles in the country's history. If you're wondering what to do in Sydney, the Australian National Maritime Museum is a good place to start your Sydney educational adventure with your kids. One of the main exhibits here is the replica of Captain James Cook's ship when he claimed Australia in 1770. Relics of the aborigines' water vessels are also among the interesting displays. What's even more fun is that the kids climb on some of the water crafts!
Museum of Sydney As one of the most popular and dynamic cultural attractions in the city, the Museum of Sydney tells about the past and the present of the city through its history, culture, and people. The museum explores Sydney through pictures, stories, digital media technologies, interactive exhibits, and artefacts, relics, and other paraphernalia gathered before the colonisation up until the present.
Powerhouse Museum Every kid is fascinated by the mysteries of science and technology. Australia's largest museum, the Powerhouse Museum promotes interactive learning experiences through its state-of the art interactive exhibits including computer games, videos, demonstrations, and other kids activities and lectures. The museum has over 250 exhibits that cover science, technology, decorative arts, and Australian pop culture, among others. One of its key attractions, and probably the most popular, is The Strasburg Clock Model, a working model of the Strasbourg astronomical clock in Strasbourg Cathedral.
Hyde Park Barracks Museum The barracks at the northern end of the Hyde Park were originally built as prisoner quarters, then it became an immigration depot, then a women's asylum. Now, the barracks serves as a museum holding treasures telling about Sydney's history and colonial life. The Hyde Park Barracks Museum is considered as one of UNESCO World Heritage Lists' “best surviving examples of large-scale convict transportation and the colonial expansion of European powers through the presence and labour of convicts.""
Justice and Police Museum A police station before, the Justice and Police Museum emphasises on themes of crime and punishment, and law and order. Its key features include a magistrate court, a restored police charge room, remand cells, and mug shots of the criminals in Sydney. There is also a display of weapons used in the early years; and an exhibit on the details of the most gruesome crimes in Australia.
Art Gallery of New South Wales The arts for kids are excellent ways to stimulate their creativity and imagination, and also great outlets for creative expression. Bringing them to art galleries in Sydney will not only let them learn about the arts and culture of the city, but will also inspire them to become future artists. The Art Gallery of NSW displays around 29,000 artworks divided into seven major collections: Australian, Aboriginal, Asian, European, Contemporary, Photography, and Prints, Drawings, and Watercolour. The Art Gallery of NSW serves as an artworks custodian and as a research resource. Every Sunday afternoon, they have a free Gallery Kids performance, open to kids of all ages.
Sydney Tramway Museum Experimental electric trams began in Sydney in 1890. The city also had horse trams, steam trams, and cable trams. Trams used to be popular modes of transportation, as the tram system can transport over 80,000 passengers, before tram lines were closed during the World War II. Located in the suburb of Loftus, Sydney Tramway Museum is the oldest tramway in Australia and the largest in the southern hemisphere. The museum has a broad collection of trams, a passenger rail vehicle, gathered from the cities in Australia and around the world. Your kids can go on a tram ride, offered to visitors to tour them around the museum.
Sydney is an excellent holiday destination for kids and the whole family. Besides the museums and galleries, there are many other fun things to do and exciting attractions. Surrounded by water, Sydney has some world class beaches with safe swimming and surfing spots for kids. Zoos in Sydney are also great places to bring your kids. The Taronga Zoo has the famous Chimpanzee Exhibit and Gorilla Forest. The zoo also allows kids to get up close and personal with cute and cuddly animals. Visit our ActiveActivities Directory for more suggestions of the most appealing places and kids activities in Sydney.

Netball is a ball sport played on a rectangular court by two teams of seven players each. Players score goals by shooting the ball through their opponent's goal ring. Derived from basketball, netball originated in England in the 1890s, with codified versions of the game appearing in the 1960s. Netball was formally ratified in Australia in 1927, and the official governing body Netball Australia formed in 1993. Netball is one of the most popular female recreational sports in the world, with male involvement increasing since the 1980s. With the advent of mixed netball, it was estimated in 2006 that there were as many males playing netball as Rugby Union.
The objective of netball is to score more goals than the opposing team. Players can move either one or two thirds on the court, and are assigned to attack or defend. Players are permitted to hold the ball for three seconds before passing it on, and must be stationary when holding the ball. Games last 60 minutes, broken up into 15 minute quarters.

Individual sports like swimming and gymnastics are also great for preschoolers.
It is also important to consider your kid?s interest. For kids who are not into sports, you can still keep them active by letting them play around your house or at the playground. Play tag with them or teach them how to ride a bicycle. Playing with them is a nice way to experience some quality bonding time together. You can browse our ActiveActivities Directory for more tips on sports and other ActiveActivities Directory .
Preschool sports programs are worth their time and your money when you sign them up. Your kids will receive the full attention and support they need, they will also have fun while learning. Let your kids explore and try new things. Encourage them to try out preschool sports!

Is Rugby League for your Kids?
The tough, physical nature of rugby league puts off many parents, but rugby league is actually less injury prone than AFL, basketball, soccer, and several other top sports, and modifications such as Mini Footy and Mod Football League, and initiatives such as the National Safeplay Code and the Kids to Kangaroos program further ensure kids can learn to play rugby league safely.
As one of the most popular kids' activities, Rugby league confers health and other benefits, including:
Fitness and endurance
Strength
Agility
Team skills
Social skills
Communication skills
Self-discipline
Get Your Kids Started!
The first step in getting your child started in rugby league is to find the setting that will best suit your child's needs. This may be a school rugby league program or a rugby league club or indeed just a convenient area where mates can get together and play.
Registration for rugby league clubs is usually in February and may involve a fee of some $80, depending on location of the rugby ground and what is provided. For this, kids will usually score a jersey?sometimes just for the season but sometimes to keep. For children up to 12 years, it may not be necessary to buy any special clothing?even shoes. Past this age, boots ($30-120 depending on brand and model and supplier) and socks (around $10) will be required.
One piece of equipment that should be used from the youngest age is a mouthguard. You can buy ready fit ones for as little as $10 but they provide inferior protection and may well be so uncomfortable they will not be worn. Custom-made ones are expensive but do a much better job of protection and should be far more comfortable to wear. Other protective wear that can be worn are shoulder pads ($50-130 depending on brand, model and supplier) and headgear ($30-100).
If your child wants a ball to practice with, this may cost from $15 to $90 depending on quality and outlet.
Stars and Events not to be missed!
Every National Rugby League game is screened. In Queensland and New South Wales, State of Origin has the largest audience of any TV program.Rugby league is the most watched sport on Australian TV and star players are idolised.
Mal Meninga is a legendary goal kicking centre, who is counted amongst the best footballers of the 20th century
Wally Lewis is an immortal
Andrew Johns (joey) is well on the way to be immortal
Darren Lockyer, Brad Fittler, Steve Mortimer - the list goes on..........
For any up and coming rugby league player there are a number of international tournaments to be training for:
Rugby League world Cup
Four Nations
Pacific Cup
Atlantic Cup
Have fun kids and remember to stay safe!

Pony riding is a popular kids? activity in Australia.

Will your kids enjoy Pony Riding?
Do your kids like animals and the outdoors? They would probably enjoy pony riding. Ponies are smaller than horses so are well suited to small or young kids or those who might be a bit intimidated by a large horse. Many kids, particularly girls, love ponies and riding can give them the chance to form a close bond with an animal as well as getting plenty of fresh air and exercise. If your child is scared of large animals or easily frightened pony riding might not be for them!
Why should you consider taking your kids pony riding?
There are a number of benefits including:
Great form of exercise for both fitness and strength
Can improve confidence
Teaches kids values such as respect and discipline and can help them develop nurturing qualities
Gives kids an interest in the outdoors
Kids can start learning to ride a very small pony at around 3 and progress to larger animals. Recreational trail riding is a popular way for kids to spend time outdoors and explore the local area and there are also formal competitive events and the chance to play fun pony games for children who are interested. Associations and pony riding clubs can add a social element to equestrian activities for kids and are often a great way to make friends however, pony riding is one of those kids activities that can become a serious ? and expensive ? sport.
How can you organise Pony Riding lessons for your kids?
Not sure where to start? Your local riding stables or equestrian centre will offer pony riding lessons for kids either as part of a group or on an individual basis. Kids’ horse riding group lessons are a great way to start and are cheaper than individual tuition. An hour lesson usually costs around $50 an hour and trail riding is around $80 for a two hour trail ride. Young children can be led by someone on foot when on trails. Most riding schools offer all year round weekend lessons and kids can start any time. Your child will need appropriate clothing including closed toed low heeled shoes and leggings or suitable pants. Hard hats are usually available at the pony riding school or you might prefer to buy one to ensure a perfect fit. Whether you choose to hit the trails, have your kids learn on a more formal level, or stick to the pony riding on offer at the next local fete, pony riding can be a thrilling and somewhat addictive experience for kids!

What Kind of Kids' Parties and Party Activities Are Available?
Throwing a birthday party for your child is a great way to make them feel special.
The options for thess kinds of kids' activities are endless and include:
Simple backyard birthdays with food, games and a cake - great if you are on a budget, or if your child prefers to steer clear of the limelight. Jumping castles are also popular at backyard parties.
Themed kids' parties - ideas include superhero parties, pirate parties, princesses and dressing up as your favourite cartoon character. Your child can have fun making their own costumes and decorations to match the theme and even choosing some party music.
Hiring entertainers - an entertainer can take the form of a clown, magician, fairy or pirate and keep the kids amused for the duration of the festivities.
Craft parties - for creative kids, arts and craft parties can be held at home or at your local kids' art school. Kids can work on fun craft projects and have something to take home at the end.
Play centre venues - usually they take care of food and entertainment and you just need to bring a cake. Perfect if you're not keen on holding kids' parties at home.
Don't want to make things too complicated? If your child is shy or very young, a simple picnic at a local park or the beach can make for a lovely low key day with the minimum of hassle.
What's the Best Way to Organise Kids' Parties and Party Activities?
Overwhelmed at the thought of arranging a party? No matter what type of party you choose, there are a number of things you will need to organise:
Venue - indoor, outdoor, at home or a special venue; consider whether your chosen venue is suitable for the number of guests and type of entertainment.
Invitations - make sure to give your guests plenty of notice and a phone number on the invitation for them to RSVP to.
Food - for kids' parties, a few party snacks is all that's needed - they'll probably be too busy running around to sit down and eat. Don't forget the cake!
Take home party bags - these can be inexpensive and simple or elaborate; it's up to you.
The cost of kids' parties can vary greatly - from very minimal for a homemade cake and a few backyard party activities for kids to hundreds or even thousands of dollars if professional entertainers and party planners are involved.
Whatever your budget, with a bit of planning and creativity your child can have a fantastic and memorable day!
