Are libraries for your kid(s)?
Do your kids love reading? It can be expensive to keep buying books, so to save money they might love a membership of your local library. Your library contains books on a huge range of subjects and if they don’t have a particular book right there, they will order it for you. Libraries can open a huge window on the world for kids and often provide specific kids activities.
Libraries:
Give your kids a head start on education
Provide information on almost anything your kids might be interested in
Help stimulate your kids’ imaginations through reading fiction as well as non-fiction
Help advance your kids’ literacy and communication skills, increasing their vocabulary
Libraries are not only about books, there are toy libraries too! These days libraries and their books are accessible online. Libraries provide many digital sources of information, such as video and audio material.Libraries, also provide access to reading clubs and reading groups.
There is such a diversity of reading material in libraries (not only books but magazines and comic books) that all your kids are sure to find something to get absorbed in. Even young children who are not yet able to read can be entertained by a storytelling or nursery rhyme session.
While libraries are generally safe places, you’ll still need to keep an eye out to make sure your kids don’t make a lot of noise or drop heavy books and hurt themselves. Alternatively, many libraries have a website that you and your kids can access from home and download reading material that way.
Get your kids to go to a library next weekend!
Want to get your kids exploring amazing new facts 2012 is the Australian National Year of Reading so why not take them to your local library where membership is usually free. Museums, science centres and exhibitions may also have libraries associated with them which can be another fun reading avenue to explore! Check out our ActiveActivities Directory for your closest library, and library activities.

Are surf life saving clubs for your kids?
Surf life saving Australia is the surf life saving, water safety, drowning prevention, and rescue authority in Australia. Its mission is to provide a safe beach environment throughout the country by patrolling beaches, education, and training. Surf life saving clubs are volunteer organisations that deliver rescue services and competitive surf sport. Aside from surf life saving training and beach sports, the surf life saving clubs for kids also host kids activities like surf carnivals that involve beach and life saving-oriented events like surf life saving competitions.
The benefits of joining surf life saving clubs are not only the development of responsibility and awareness of safety issues in your kids, but also confidence in the water, as well as enjoyment with old and new friends. Surf life saving protects life, saves life, and promotes life. The surf life saving clubs in Australia have surf clubs for different age groups, starting 5 years old.
Nipper Club
The nippers are the surf life savers of tomorrow. The nipper club is open to kids ages 5 to 13. Too young to do actual life saving duties, nipper programs focus on educating the members with basic surf safety skills and an understanding of the surf environment. Nippers also get to participate in fun activities that help develop skills like running, swimming, and surfing.
Junior Surf Life Savers
The nipper club serves as a pathway to the juniors program, for 13 to 15 year old kids. The junior surf life savers are taught the different rescue techniques and earn certificates such as the Bronze Medallion, which will make them become certified surf life savers.
Active members above age 15 can already participate in surf life saving competitions such as the Ironman events, involving elements of surf swimming, board riding, running, mock rescues, and paddling.
There are more than 300 surf life saving clubs in Australia. Look them up in our ActiveActivities Directory and find out which are the ones nearest you. You can also check our directory for more fun tips and ideas for fun activities for your active babies, toddlers, and teens.
Surf life saving is a lifestyle that promotes positive attitudes in your children as well as confidence, knowledge, and skills in the beach environment. Keep your kids safe in the beach by getting them to join surf life saving clubs!

Schools, commercial tennis courts and tennis clubs may all have teachers who provide lessons. Cost of these can vary widely, depending on the qualifications and reputation of the teacher and the number of children in the group.
Talk to your child's sports teacher and parents for recommendations
Determine what is best for your child individual or group lessons?
Your child will need a racquet. These vary in shape and size and cost ($30-$200 depending on brand, quality and outlet), but the younger your child is the smaller the racket must be. Actually, his racket must be the same size as your arm plus your hand. Speak to your local Tennis Coach he will advise you. Balls are cheap ($2-$3). Clothing can be a polo or T-shirt and shorts and tennis shoes.

Would your kids enjoy combat sports?
If your kids love action movies, video games with lots of fighting and arm wrestling, they might love a sport that has some of the same elements! Combat sports for kids like kung fu, karate and other martial arts can help control aggression while teaching self-defence and safety skills at the same time. Other combat sports such as wrestling and punching can offer the same benefits, although there may be a higher risk of injury.
Combat sports for boys and girls are available all over Australia. Classes are often run which combine all ages, so you might even be able to do it yourself and make the activity into quality family time!
Why are combat sports a great kids activity?
Activities for kids should promote all aspects of your child's health. There are lots of benefits which youngsters of all ages can get from combat sports, from toddlers right through to older children. (For example, karate classes and lessons for kids which welcome children from the age of 4 and up!) Some of these benefits include:
Improvement of their motor co-ordination skills
Improved concentration and brain stimulation
Muscle strength, cardio fitness and flexibility
Focus and concentration skills
Information on combat sports
Combat sports are always one-on-one, so the great news is that you won't ever have to worry about your kids getting into a huge scrum or jostling crowd they can't handle! However, depending on which combat sport they choose, there may be more chance of your youngster having a bruise or scratch. The more severe the sport the more safety equipment they should have to protect their face, eyes and bodies. Some of the best accessories include:
Mouthguard
Gloves
Knee and elbow pads
Soft helmet
Combat sports supplies are available at stores which sell other sporting equipment. If your child is going to take up a martial art, they will also need to purchase a uniform.
The three main techniques used in combat sports include grappling (pinning, clinching or take down' wrestling); striking; and use of weapons or sticks.
There are lots of combat sports for girls and boys alike. Combat sports academies often run a mixture of classes for both genders separately and together.
Get your kids to start learning combat sports!

Will Your Kids Enjoy Playing chess?
Does your child like a mental challenge?
If they can sit still and focus for long periods of time and enjoy a good battle of wills they might love playing chess. Chess is an activity the whole family can get involved in and your child might enjoy taking on their siblings or parents, you might even be surprised how good they are!
There may be many benefits to playing chess, including:
Can improve kids’ concentration which in turn helps their academic prowess
Helps develop analytical thinking
Improves kids’ memory
Teaches critical problem solving skills
May increase confidence
Helps to teach self-control
In very exceptional circumstances some kids can start playing chess as young as 3! Most children have the maturity to understand the rules and start playing properly at around 7 or 8 but this depends on the individual child. Try to get your children into other kids activities if they seem too young too start. Some of the moves associated with the different pieces, particularly knights, can be complicated but you might be surprised how quickly your child picks up on them.
Does your child find it hard to sit still?
They might be better off with a more physical activity or sport as chess does require a lot of focus and patience.
How Can You Organise Chess for Your Kids?
If your kids are keen to start learning chess, there are a couple of choices. Many schools run chess clubs during lunchtimes which gives kids a chance to learn the basics, make new friends and compete against others players from their school and even inter school chess championships. You may also find local private chess clubs in our ActiveActivities Directory. Your children will learn complex strategies and may wish to step in formal competitions within the chess clubs or at a regional or national level and measure themselves against the beautiful minds of their own age.
Can your kids use a computer?
Computer chess is growing in popularity and is a fun way for kids to take lessons and play online against other people. Just like the real life version, computer chess uses a black and white chessboard and all the same pieces including bishops, pawns and queen to simulate the real experience.
If your child gets into chess you will probably want to purchase a chess set which can be bought cheaply at a toy shop. Some portable chess sets can be slipped into a pocket.
Playing chess is a highly enjoyable way to stimulate young brains and your child may reap the benefits for years to come!

You know what’s in with kids today? Breakdance!
Breakdance is a form of modern dance that accompanies most genres of music with prolonged musical breaks, like hip hop music. It is a popular style of street dance that consists of acrobatic moves and complex foot work. It has four elements – toprock, downrock, power moves, and freezes. Dancers who practise this style are called b-boys and b-girls. One popular Australian b-boy is Wade Robson; he was the host and creator of MTV’s The Wade Robson Project. He was also a judge in So You Think You Can Dance.
"

Is Breakdance a good activity for your kids?
The origin of breakdance comes from African Americans and Latinos of New York City. Breakdance and the hip hop culture in Australia began in the early 1980’s.
It is popular among teenagers and also kids. People who are into this culture wear jerseys or baggy clothes and rubber shoes. Hip hop music is known for the chanted rhyming lyrics, also called rap. In rap music videos, you will always see people dancing at a party or always having breakdancing battles. Breakdancing movies are also popular nowadays like Step Up and You Got Served. If your kids like hip hop and dancing, they might be interested in breakdance. Kids always like to be in the know about the latest trends. Learning breakdance will definitely make them one of the coolest kids around.
What are the benefits your kids will get from learning how to breakdance?
Physical Fitness Like any form of dancing, breakdance can be a workout especially for the joints. Just make sure they do stretching exercises first.
Discipline Learning any form of art requires focus and self-control. Attending breakdance classes will help develop discipline in your kids in order to master the art.
Social Breakdance can be practised solo or in group. Let your kids join a dance group to develop leadership and to learn how to interact with different people.
Communication Kids sometimes have a hard time of expressing themselves verbally. Dancing is a good outlet for expression. Breakdancing battles are also perfect alternatives for sorting things out in a friendly way whenever there’s an argument between groups.
Confidence Developing or improving a skill or talent will bring out confidence in your kids.
Breakdance can be very interesting for everyone, but it would be more suitable for older kids. The dance moves are not easy to learn so it requires patience and also a strong physique. Kids activities like this are also more popular in teen age group because adolescence is the stage where kids worry about fitting in. This kind of dance is more popular among boys as it involves aggressive moves like popping and locking. Girls are more graceful dancers but many dance groups have already showed that girls can also be really good at breakdance.
Attending breakdance classes and competitions can be included in your list of activities for kids that can be enjoyed during the school holidays. Check out our ActiveActivities Directory for Breakdance schools and lessons. Let them learn how to breakdance to unleash their potential. Who knows, they might be the next Wade Robson!

Why school holiday camps in WA are great activities for your kids?
Child care in WA, as well as other states of Australia, is the most important concern of every parent. It is important that kids grow up to be healthy and fully capable in all aspects Ð physical, mental, and emotional. School holiday camps in WA come in many forms, depending on your kids' interests. There are adventure camps and sports camps, and just about anything that includes activities for kids that will allow them to have fun, learn, and develop new skills in safe and supportive environment. School holiday camps are also places where kids can be themselves, where they can indulge in fun learning activities with other kids their age.
The most ideal school holiday to send your kids to school holiday camps is during the summer, as most camp activities are done in nature and require a dry weather. Some summer camps in Australia, including WA, are conducted by non-profit organisations and youth groups, such as the Boys and Girls Brigade, and the Scouts. School holiday camps can be day camps or overnight camps. Day camps are for primary age kids that last for a week, while overnight camps are for older kids.
Be it for recreational or educational purposes, there are school holiday camps in WA that will definitely suit your kids.
Art camps
Kids who show potential in the arts could attend either creative or performing arts workshops. Sports camps Sports camps offer instruction in a wide range of sports. Your kids can attend a sports camp that focuses on a specific sport to hone their skills or to learn a new sport. A multisports camp is also recommended to kids who are just starting to get into sports and are still finding out what sport might be the best for them.
Training camps
Training camps focus on developing leadership. This is the aim of most youth groups: for campers to develop life skills that enable them to grow into efficient and responsible citizens. Training camps have balanced programs so every kid, energetic and not-so-energetic, can participate and have fun.

Why surfing in The Gold Coast Region is a great activity for your kids?
The Gold Coast consists of 70km of coastline with some of the most popular point breaks and beach breaks in Australia and the world. Gold Coast beaches have the best and most consistent waves in Australia, perfect for beginners and experts alike. If you live in Queensland or spending the holidays in the area, one of the most exciting activities for kids is to go surfing in The Gold Coast region. Wondering where to surf on the Gold Coast? Below are some of the most famous Gold Coast surf spots:
The Spit The Spit is one of the best surfing beaches on the north end of the Gold Coast. It has plenty of access points and beach breaks, allowing surfers to find their own space. The Spit is a popular surf spot because of its regular and clean breaks. Aside from surfing, you can take a walk along the sand walking trails or admire the remarkable views by the breakwater. Sheltered barbecue areas and playgrounds can also be found in this area.
Narrowneck Narrowneck has some good beach breaks with right size swells. The beach has an artificial reef to curb beach erosion and to give more consistent surfing conditions. Kite surfing is also a popular activity in this area.
Palm Beach Palm Beach has consistent beach breaks that improve as the swells grow created by good sand banks and several groin rocks. This white sand beach is usually quieter than other beaches located at the north. It is also an ideal spot to paddle out and body surf.
Snapper Rocks Snapper Rocks is the most popular surf beach in Gold Coast region. The Quiksilver pro surfing event is held here every year because of its favourable consistent surfing conditions and good clean waves. It has massive swells and the longest rideable waves in the world.
Burleigh Heads Experience the famous Burleigh barrels, world famous point breaks, and excellent surfing conditions at the Burleigh Heads. It hosts many professional surfing championships and has a wonderful national park backdrop.
Surfers Paradise Surfers' Paradise beach is probably the busiest and the most popular holiday destination in Gold Coast. The waves are small, making it an ideal surfing spot for kids and beginners. It combines the city and beach lifestyles, with an abundance of theme parks and family attractions.
Kirra Beach Kirra Beach is most popular during the cyclone season, where the winds increase the swell. The strong currents are challenging for the skilled surfers, while the beginners can practise with the smaller swells near the shore.
Currumbin Alley Currumbin's small waves are perfect for novice and kid surfers, while the strong right-hand breaks are for the more experienced surfers. The calm creek and the rock pools are also great places to bring your kids.
Brisbane also has some good surf spots like the Main Beach, Pinkenba, and the Yellow Patch. Surfing in Byron Bay, NSW is another option when surfing outside Queensland. It also has surf beaches that are popular with domestic and international tourists.
The best season for surfing in Gold Coast region is during the end of summer, the start of cyclone season. Your kids' summer in The Gold Coast won't be complete without surfing its waves. Surfboard hires are available at most beaches. For those who want to learn to surf, surfing lessons are provided by surf schools and beaches. Choose surfing lessons for kids that have Gold Coast Council approved surf coaches who are also qualified lifesavers. Surfing lessons can cost from $45 to $190, depending on the package. Our ActiveActivities Directory provides a list of surf schools and companies that provide surfing lessons in Gold Coast, also some suggestions on where to surf on the Gold Coast.
Observe proper safety measures such as having the right surfing equipment Ð surfboards with rubber fins, highest protection sunscreen, and wetsuits. The Gold Coast has the largest surf lifesaving service in Australia. They protect people on the beaches and promote surf safety. They use flag systems that serve as safety signs for beach goers. Red and yellow flags represent safe swimming spots; red flags mean the area is closed due to dangerous conditions; red and white chequered flags mean that sharks have been sighted in the area; and blue flags represent the surfers' riding area.
Aside from surfing, Gold Coast has plenty of family attractions and kids activities to choose from. There is the Hinterland, the Outback Spectacular Dinner and Show, Putt Putt Mini Golf, Sea World, and the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

Hello Aussie parents and carers! Are you contemplating introducing your little one to the world of sports? It's an exciting step, but with so many options, it can be a bit overwhelming. From Swimming Classes to Soccer Classes, and Pre School Sports programs, the choices are endless. Let's explore how to select the right sport for your child, ensuring it’s enjoyable, beneficial, and a great fit for their budding abilities.
Understanding Your Child's Interests and Abilities
Before diving into the plethora of sports available, take a moment to observe your child. What activities do they naturally gravitate towards? Are they more interested in individual challenges or team-based games? Understanding their interests and physical abilities is key in choosing a sport they will enjoy and excel in.
Age-Appropriate Sports
For younger kids, especially in pre-school, focus on sports that enhance basic motor skills and coordination. Activities like tumbling, simple gymnastics, or ball games are great starters. As children grow, their capacity for understanding complex rules and strategies also increases, opening doors to more structured sports.
The Benefits of Starting Early
Introducing sports at a young age comes with a myriad of benefits. It helps in developing motor skills, social skills, and even cognitive abilities. Early exposure to physical activity sets a foundation for a healthy lifestyle and can instill a lifelong love for sports.
Physical and Mental Development
Participating in sports enhances a child's physical development, improving strength, coordination, and overall fitness. It also boosts mental health, contributing to higher self-esteem and resilience.
Popular Sports for Young Children
Swimming is not just a fun activity; it's a vital life skill. Swimming classes offer a safe environment where children can learn water safety and improve their physical strength. It's a skill that not only provides a great workout but can also save lives.
Soccer is a fantastic team sport that's suitable for all ages. It promotes teamwork, coordination, and cardiovascular health. Soccer classes for young children are usually focused more on fun and basic skills rather than competition, making it a great starter sport.
Pre-school sports programs are specifically designed for young children, focusing on basic skills, fun, and social interaction. These programs often introduce kids to a variety of sports, helping them discover what they enjoy the most.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Sport
Selecting the right sport for your child involves considering several factors:
Safety
Always consider the safety of the sport. Ensure the program or class has qualified instructors, appropriate safety gear, and a proven track record of providing a safe environment.
Convenience
Consider the location and schedule of the classes. A conveniently located and scheduled sport reduces stress for both you and your child, making the experience more enjoyable.
Cost
Be mindful of the costs associated with different sports, including equipment, uniforms, and ongoing class fees.
Encouraging Your Child
Once you’ve chosen a sport, encourage your child’s participation but avoid pressuring them. Celebrate their efforts and progress rather than just their victories. Remember, the goal is to foster a love for sports and physical activity, not just to win games.
The Role of Parents
As a parent or carer, your role is to be a supportive and positive influence. Attend their games, help them practice, and most importantly, show interest in what they’re learning and achieving.
Conclusion
Introducing your child to sports is a journey filled with fun, learning, and growth. Whether it’s swimming, soccer, or a pre-school sports program, the right sport can spark a lifelong passion for physical activity. Remember, the best sport for your child is one that they look forward to, where they can have fun, make friends, and learn new skills. So go ahead, explore the options, and get ready to cheer on your little athlete!

So go ahead, explore the options, and get ready to cheer on your little athlete!

string(54) "A Knife Hand block is considered an advanced technique"
["long_descritpion"]=>
string(155) "It is for this reasons that many Instructors will use Knife Hand blocks with junior belts and beginners, to simply deflect and guide their techniques away."
["overview"]=>
string(494) "In a Knife Hand Guard, your fingers should all be connected, with no gaps between the fingers. Your three middle fingers should be at the same height (and thus your middle fingers need to be pulled down towards your palm, while still predominantly straight, it is normal for the middle finger to have a slight arch). The Thumb should be pulled close to the palm of the hand and not sticking out. Your hand then will resemble the blade of a knife and that's where the name Knife Hand originated."
["content"]=>
string(2618) "
A Knife Hand block is considered an advanced technique, where you use the outer edge of the hand to initially block or deflect an attack, with the emphasis on the word "initially"!
A Knife Hand block subsequently can grab or capture the opponent's technique. For example: If your opponent performs a punch or decides to jab with their leading hand, you can have your knife hand deflect the punch away from your face and then moving your blocking hand to grab the attacker's wrist or forearm to counterattack.
A Knife Hand is a great for self defence and a deflecting technique. A regular block might stop a technique completely mid-way, interrupting the attacker from completing the attack. While a Knife Hand Block can do the same as well, it is well suited for deflecting the technique or guiding the technique away to completion, so the attacker may complete his attack while being deflected or "guided" to a favourable or advantageous position for the defender to successfully complete counter.
It is for this reasons that many Instructors will use Knife Hand blocks with junior belts and beginners, to simply deflect and guide their techniques away.
This should not be confused with the pushing, "slapping", or open-handed blocks performed by the inside of the palm or fingers that are used by some practitioners! Big ... BIG NO NO!
A Knife Hand Block can also double as a Knife Hand Strike with devastating results.
The Knife Hand requires conditioning of the leading edge of the hand and paying good attention to maintaining the tight finger formation and positioning, any negligence or complacency can result in broken fingers and thumbs.
As you progress in your training, your instructor will properly teach when and how to apply a proper Knife Hand blocking technique. So, when you are sparring, please use the appropriate technique as instructed and ensure that your hands are never loose, with fingers sticking out in all directions ... This is how serious injuries can happen!

string(494) "In a Knife Hand Guard, your fingers should all be connected, with no gaps between the fingers.
["content"]=>
string(2618) "

If you're wondering where to play badminton in Sydney you're in luck! There are many places where there are public badminton courts available for rent. However, there are courts that require memberships for online booking, so be sure to research in advance when choosing which court to play in.
In the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Hall, bookings can be made 30 days in advance, with a $23 per hour rate. To learn more about where you can play badminton in Sydney, visit our ActiveActivities directory for more information. Remember, its better to play in a court than in your backyard, so that you can properly apply the badminton rules when playing, making your kids training more competitive.
The most ideal age for kids to start playing the sport is six years old. By that age, your children will be tall enough to let the shuttlecock go above the net and also to handle the professional size racquet without difficulty. Toddlers can practice with junior badminton racquets, which are designed for youngsters eager to learn the game. If you're looking for other attractive kids activities that offer the same benefits as badminton, you can let your kids try squash or tennis.
Before playing badminton, its crucial to choose the right equipment. Like previously mentioned, choose a racquet that's of good quality. Some badminton stores offer racquet stringing in case the strings of your racquet start getting loose. With that said, its often better to buy good quality badminton racquets because they require less restringing. In addition, good quality shuttlecocks dont easily lose their shuttlecock feathers, allowing your kids to play with ease for a longer period of time. Some people prefer using plastic shuttles for practice, but its better to ask your kids coach when it comes to which shuttlecock to buy.

Astronomy is the science of heavenly bodies. Astronomers study about the universe, galaxies, and all the celestial elements in them. Studies show that astronomy is one of the most popular careers that children in Australia want to pursue when they grow up. Well who can blame them? The universe is such a vast expanse of wondrous forms. Do your kids like stargazing? Do you often notice them watching the sky? Perhaps they can join astronomy clubs for kids! They are great places where kids can get together and discuss about the planets and stars!

Are astronomy clubs great for your kids?
Science education is one of the main subjects included in an academic syllabus and pre school activities. Teaching kids science becomes more fun and interesting by incorporating some engaging activities for kids such as simple yet fascinating experiments and games. One particular branch of science that gets the attention of children is astronomy because of the amazing planets, stars, and constellations. Some parents like bonding with their toddlers by waiting for a shooting star and making a wish; or by identifying the constellations. That is a good way to encourage your kids to gain interest in astronomy. Another thing is to get them to join astronomy clubs. They provide a unique opportunity for kids to experience the mysteries of astronomy even outside regular school hours.
Astronomy clubs for kids provide more comprehensive and focused programs beyond the scope of the school curriculum for groups of children. Astronomy clubs bring together kids of the same interest and provide astronomy classes and lessons covering broad astronomy scopes including learning how to use the telescope, studying about shooting stars, identifying the constellations and the planets of the solar system, and understanding the different seasons. Fun kids activities are also conducted such as doing science experiments for kids, going on an educational trip to science centres and observatories, and of course, going stargazing.
Most astronomy clubs for kids in Australia are for children 8 years old and above. You can find these astronomy clubs in most science centres and science museums. Astronomy societies are composed of amateur astronomers and astronomy enthusiasts within a community; and they also have created astronomy clubs for their kids. For a full list of all the registered astronomy clubs in Australia, visit our ActiveActivities Directory. There are also other clubs and groups that deal with other aspects of science for kids if your children have other interests other than astronomy.
With all the things your kids have learned in from astronomy clubs, they now have more ideas how to celebrate Astronomy Day every 28th of July! They can create mini space craft out of unused household materials; or they can transform their room into a mini galaxy by gluing glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling.
Joining astronomy clubs are not only for future astronomers. Studying the stars and the alignment of planets and satellites is also important when navigating the seas and when predicting the weather. Astronomy clubs are therefore also ideal for your little sailors and meteorologists.
Encourage your kids to discover the wonders of the universe!

"You're missing the point! When assessing your performance, your focus should be on what is was you did right by your audience."
What mistakes am I making?
You see, in my opinion, a singer's biggest mistake is thinking that any performance is in fact about them... It's actually entirely about your audience. The applause, the praise, and the judge's marks come out of a feeling... How did you make your audience feel? Your audience is extraordinarily selfish, and they genuinely do not care how well you did. They care about having an experience... they desperately want to be moved! People listen to music because they are seeking an escape or processing some emotion... It is your job as an artist to enable them to do to that."
["content"]=>
string(2012) "
Yes, work on your craft… Yes, take singing classes & lessons… and yes, rehearse your songs… but when it comes to performance, try not to get too caught up in the details. Or rather switch your focus! You can cross-examine the way you sang that day in your mind a trillion times… ask the judges for a detailed list of your mistakes, and confront your singing coach about gaps in your learning, but if you don’t consider what your audience might have wanted from you that day, you are going about your critique the wrong way.
How do I get it right?
My suggestion would be to start with the question, “What did I feel when I was singing that song?” If the answer is “nervous”, my guess is your audience felt nervous for you. If your answer is “nothing, I was just thinking about singing it correctly”, my guess is your audience was consciously listening for every error.
Next time you are preparing for a performance, choose a song that makes you feel something! Choose a song wherein you can connect with the lyrics or with some emotion of your own. Tap into a memory, a wish, a yearning, a fantasy… relate it to a book, or a movie, or a story your Mum told you once! Use any device you can, so that once you are on that stage, all you need to do is to fall into that feeling. I guarantee your audience will feel it too, and finally, you will gain the response you’ve always daydreamed about... The kind of response no amount of studied and rehearsed technique could possibly achieve on its own.

1. Concentration
Dance class is generally a structured environment that when taught in an engaging way with set goals in mind, develops a student’s focus and concentration. Many parents off feedback saying the classes have been calming for their high energy children; especially those with special needs.
2. Physical development
Dance is both an art form and a sport. It supports the development of physical strength, fitness, flexibility while sharpening reflexes and coordination. Development of fine and gross motor skills are also important to other developmental areas.
3. Language development
Often students are encouraged to ask questions about their learning and, as they learn ballet terminology which is traditionally spoken in French, students are encouraged to speak to use the language comfortably and gain confidence from the knowledge gained. Every child should have the opportunity to speak while other children are listening with respect. Children are able to speak and express themselves in a non-threatening environment, and treat others with respect which is a very important life skill.
4. Sense of Community
The ballet and dance communities are great for students and their families. Children excel in an environment of positive relationships, and generally they really enjoy going. It's important in these environments that everyone feels as though they are treated equally with respect and courtesy. Learning in a supportive community means that everyone has a place where they belong and no one is left behind, regardless of their skills or ability.
5. Confidence and self-esteem
Dance classes are often created to nurture each child’s abilities through achievable goals. Children get to know their own limits and thrive from working outside their comfort zone. The goals we set in our classes support children to build self-esteem and confidence as well as the knowledge they gain along the way. By presenting the classes in an engaging way, the children receive the lessons better because they're not dull and boring and they start to really love the learning process and want to improve each week.
