Broaden your knowledge
Debating requires students to have knowledge of the world around them. Students on the debating team become well-informed about world issues, politics and policy. These students develop an appreciation of a broad range of perspectives and learn to address issues from either side of the table.
Develop skills in research and analysis
Depending on the debating competition, a team may have only a few days to prepare for the debate, or may not find out whether they are affirmative or negative until an hour before. This means students must have performed thorough research and analysed their findings. Debaters learn efficient ways to research and are taught the importance of using trusted, well-informed and balanced sources for gathering information on a particular topic."

Excel in argument
In debating, students learn how to structure an argument, and the importance of backing up their points with sufficient reasons and examples. Through rigorous preparation, debaters learn how to structure the argument to build to the main point and win over an audience. They learn the importance of examples to support the information and maintain relevance. The ability to develop and present an argument is essential to written expression and essay writing – so the debating skills quickly become relevant in the classroom.
Develop crucial communication skills
Regardless of the career path any of us take, the ability to communicate effectively and think critically is instrumental to social, professional and academic success. Debaters learn to use their voice to present their argument with clarity, confidence and conviction. Debaters are taught language techniques such as anecdote and repetition to build rapport with the audience and communicate their argument with strength.
Grow your social network
Each school participates in different debating competitions, but almost all of them are inter-school competitions. Students debate against students from other schools, often visiting other schools for debates, and have the chance to talk after the debate. It’s a great way to meet other people with similar interests from outside an immediate network. The friends made through debating could end up being future peers at university or even colleagues. Chances are, they are also interested in speaking out about important issues.

Reading poetry aloud helps children develop an awareness of the sounds of words through rhyme, rhythm and repetition. Other language and linguistic techniques such as imagery and metaphor bring stories to life in the mind of a child. These images and rhymes can help children learn new words, become stronger readers and extend their vocabulary.
Words and phrases are often used in slightly different ways in poetry, allowing children to engage with language in a way that's different to prosaic text. "

These days, poetry struggles to find it's place in a primary school classroom. However, poetry is fundamental in learning vocal expression and reading aloud. Poetry plays a key role in speech and drama classes, where children learn to use expression and add meaning to the stories they are telling through poetry.
If you're looking for a poem to read today, our students love the poems in Roald Dahl's "Revolting Rhymes", Annette Kosseris' "Giggles and Woes and Anything Goes", and Shel Silverstein's "Every Thing On It".

In a world that’s rapidly embracing the power of communication, the ability to articulate thoughts clearly and persuasively is more crucial than ever. Public speaking, often thought of as a skill reserved for the confident few, is, in fact, a talent that can be nurtured from a young age. As parents and carers in Australia, it’s natural to wonder: what is the best age for kids to start learning public speaking?
"
["content"]=>

The Golden Window for Learning: Why Earlier is Often Better
The consensus among educators and communication experts is that there is no such thing as being too young to start learning the art of public speaking. From the moment children begin to form sentences, they're on their way to becoming communicators, capable of expressing their thoughts, needs, and desires. The journey from a child's first words to their first public speech is filled with opportunities for growth, learning, and confidence-building.
Research suggests that the early years, especially those between 5 to 8 years of age, are particularly potent for embedding public speaking skills. At this stage, children are naturally curious, less inhibited, and more open to learning new skills. Their brains are like sponges, readily absorbing information and adapting to new challenges. Starting public speaking lessons or drama classes during this period can have a profound impact on a child’s ability to communicate effectively throughout their life.
Drama classes offer a fun and engaging way for children to explore their expressive abilities. These classes encourage kids to step out of their comfort zones, use their imagination, and engage with their peers in a supportive environment. Drama activities not only improve children's verbal communication but also enhance their non-verbal skills, such as body language and facial expressions, which are equally important in public speaking.
Tailoring the Learning Experience: Adapting to Different Ages and Stages
While the early years are ideal for laying the foundation of public speaking skills, the journey doesn’t stop there. As children grow, their learning needs and capabilities evolve. Educational school holiday activities can play a significant role in continuing to develop these skills outside the traditional classroom setting. These activities often provide a more relaxed and fun environment, making learning feel less like a chore and more like an adventure.
For older children, especially those in their pre-teen and teenage years, public speaking and drama programs can be tailored to address more complex aspects of communication. This includes learning how to structure a speech, understanding the audience, and mastering the art of persuasion. These skills are not only valuable for public speaking but are also essential for academic success and future career opportunities.
It’s also worth noting that the journey to becoming an effective public speaker is unique for every child. Some may show an early interest and aptitude for speaking in front of others, while others may need more encouragement and practice. The key is to provide ongoing support and opportunities for practice, without putting undue pressure on the child. Celebrating small achievements and gradual progress is crucial in building confidence and motivation.
In the quest to equip our kids with the skills they need to navigate the world confidently, public speaking stands out as a critical tool. While the best age to start learning public speaking might vary from child to child, the underlying message is clear: the earlier, the better. Starting young takes advantage of children's natural adaptability and openness to learning. However, it’s the ongoing practice, encouragement, and the right educational opportunities, such as drama classes and school holiday activities, that will truly enable children to flourish as communicators.
For parents and carers ooking to foster these skills in their children, the array of options is vast. From drama classes that ignite the imagination to educational school holiday activities that challenge and engage, the opportunities for growth are endless. Remember, the goal is not to create a generation of professional speakers but to nurture confident individuals who can express themselves clearly and effectively in any situation. Whether your child is just starting to string sentences together or is navigating the complexities of adolescence, now is the perfect time to encourage them to raise their voice and share their thoughts with the world. Let’s give our children the gift of communication, and watch as they open doors to endless possibilities.

The Foundation Stage: When to Begin Public Speaking Classes
The journey into public speaking can start earlier than many might think. While the structured environment of public speaking classes might be more suitable for children aged 7 and above, the foundational skills can be nurtured much earlier. From as young as 3 to 4 years old, children begin to form complex sentences and understand the basics of conversation. This period, ripe with curiosity and rapid learning, is an ideal time to introduce activities that boost communication skills in a playful, engaging manner.
Public speaking and drama activities tailored for younger children often focus on storytelling, expressive reading, and simple presentations that encourage them to stand and speak in front of small groups. These early experiences lay the groundwork for effective communication by gradually building their confidence in expressing themselves and listening to others.
Nurturing Skills Through Educational School Holiday Activities
School holidays present a unique opportunity to engage children in educational activities that also serve as a fun break from the regular school routine. Public speaking workshops or drama camps designed as educational school holiday activities can be a fantastic way to immerse kids in a focused learning experience. These programs are often crafted to make learning enjoyable, incorporating games, group activities, and individual speaking tasks that cater to varying ages and skill levels.
For children aged 5 to 8, holiday programs can introduce them to the joy of public speaking through storytelling, puppetry, and simple dramatic expressions. As they grow older, more structured public speaking and drama workshops can help refine their skills, teaching them about voice modulation, body language, and the art of persuasion. These activities not only enhance their speaking abilities but also their ability to work as part of a team, think critically, and engage creatively with content.
By the age of 7 to 9, children are typically ready to benefit fully from structured public speaking classes. This readiness is marked by their ability to follow complex instructions, engage in deeper levels of thinking, and exhibit a greater sense of independence. Classes designed for this age group and beyond can tackle more advanced public speaking techniques, such as crafting speeches, utilizing effective presentation aids, and engaging with diverse audiences.
It's important for parents and carers to choose public speaking programs that align with their child's interest and temperament. Some kids might thrive in a competitive environment, while others may prefer a more collaborative, supportive setting. The goal is to foster a love for communication, not to overwhelm them with pressure or expectations.
Parents and carers play a crucial role in their child's public speaking journey. Encouraging regular practice at home, whether through dinner table debates or family storytelling sessions, can reinforce the skills learned in classes or workshops. Offering constructive feedback, celebrating progress, and continually nurturing a supportive environment are key to helping children overcome the fear of public speaking and develop a confident, articulate voice.
It's also beneficial to expose children to public speaking opportunities outside of formal classes, such as community events, school assemblies, or even creating content for a family YouTube channel. These real-world applications of their skills can be incredibly empowering and motivating.
Public speaking is a skill that can significantly impact a child's academic, professional, and personal life. Starting public speaking classes at the right age maximizes the benefits for children, embedding confidence and communication skills that last a lifetime. Whether through playful introductions in the early years, educational holiday activities, or structured classes as they grow, each step is valuable in nurturing articulate, confident speakers.
For parents and carers in Australia looking to enrich their children's lives with public speaking, drama, and educational activities, the journey begins with recognizing and fostering their child's readiness to learn and express. By providing opportunities that align with their developmental stage and interests, we can unlock their potential and set them on a path to becoming effective communicators and leaders of tomorrow.

Beach sports are derivatives of original ground sports (and mainly ball sports), and are made to play in family, in a safer and "funnier" way than the original ones.

There are many different types of beach sports that are great kids' activities, including:
beach touch rugby, very close to Rugby League rules
beach volleyball, derivative from volley ball, it is usually played by two teams of two players (mixed or non mixed)
beach cricket, a great kids activity and a fun game the whole family can participate in
beach soccer, derivative from European Football, it is even closer to the Futsal than real soccer
It may be a good idea to get your kid starting a sport by trying the beach version of it, and see if he enjoys it. He will then make the choice to either keep on playing this particular one, or either stepping into the original version, as he gets older.
Summer may be the best time of the year to get your kids involved in beach sports, but try not to forget the sunscreen, the hats and some water! Even if they are usually played a softer way than the original sport, you may need some protection gear to ensure your kids do not get hurt by accident (in particular while playing beach cricket).
Many Australian beaches already have a variety of beach sports installations and offer free subscription to some regular events like beach volley games that in some places take place almost every week end of the year! It is a great way to meet new people and have a lot of fun.
Try to ask around - and especially the local surf livesaving club that may be aware of who is in charge of organizing games on the beach. Often the "regular" leagues (ie cricket, soccer and so on) also offer a beach sport option. They will also be able to give you the exact international rules.
With so many choices, it's easy to find a beach sport for your children!.
Are Beach Sports for your kids?
Beach sports are best for kids that enjoy the outdoors - and, let's face it, most do.
As outdoor activities, they are offering a large set of benefits including:
Learn water safety procedures
fitness: walk and run on the sand is softer but physically lot more demanding than running on other surfaces
Learn how to perform as a team player
Form friendships and create social bonds
Have fun
Gain confidence
Enjoy the fresh air
There is a suitable beach sport for children of all ages and fitness levels. Surf lifesaving clubs have nippers from 7 years and up (and some accept kids as young as 5). Check with your usual local club, or browse through the ActiveActivies directory to find the nearest one to you.
As for other beach sports, try your local recreation centre to find out what's in your area.
Get your kids started
Why not start off by taking the kids to the beach yourself and seeing what they might enjoy? Take along a bat and ball, or whatever gear you need and just do it. There's no need to keep score.
As mentioned above, contact your local surf lifesaving club or recreation centre to see what organised competitions are available in your area.
Beach sports don't require a lot of specific clothing ? none of those listed even require shoes - so there's no reason not to start now.
The costs to get involved in beach sports vary from minimal (just taking your kids to the beach!), up to a couple of hundred dollars to join nippers - depending on the club.
Stars and events not to be missed
The biggest beach sports in Australia are Surf Lifesaving and Beach Volley Ball.
There are also regular local competitions throughout the year ? check with your local club.
Surf lifesaving has produced several Iron Men, including Guy Leech and Grant Kenny, while Australia's female beach volleyball team of Kerri Pottharst and Natalie Cook won gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Just like Karate, Aikido also teaches self defence. Though very similar in nature Aikido is a soft technique in which it involves avoidance and redirection, throws and projections. On the other hand Karate is a hard technique that requires executions of hard punches and muscular strength.
Contrary to popular belief, Aikido does not always require size, physical strength and strong use of force. Aikido is all about angles, off-balance and power extension and can be emotionally, physically and mentally gratifying activities for kids. Once these are properly mastered, aikido techniques and methods can be more powerful than any strong use of force can achieve. In Australia, dance has woven its way into the fabric of childhood, offering kids a diverse playground of expression, discipline, and creativity. For parents and carers looking to introduce their child to the world of dance, the array of styles available can be both exciting and overwhelming. From the rhythmic beats of tap dancing classes to the smooth flows of jazz classes, each dance form offers unique benefits and experiences. Let’s embark on a journey through the vibrant world of kids' dance styles, highlighting tap dancing and jazz classes as gateways to this enriching world.
The Rhythmic World of Tap Dancing
Tap dancing is a dynamic dance style known for its rhythm, energy, and the distinctive sound of tap shoes striking the floor. It's an exhilarating way for children to develop musicality, rhythm, and coordination. Tap dancing classes offer a structured environment where kids can learn the fundamentals of tap, from basic steps to complex routines, all while engaging in an auditory experience unlike any other dance form.
Why Tap Dancing?
Tap dancing stands out for its emphasis on creating rhythm and sound. This focus on auditory feedback helps children improve their musical timing and rhythm, skills that are transferable to many other musical instruments and aspects of life. Moreover, tap dancing is a fantastic way to enhance physical coordination and balance. The intricate footwork demands precision and agility, fostering a sense of spatial awareness and physical control.
For Australian families, tap dancing classes are readily available in many dance schools across the country. These classes cater to various age groups and skill levels, ensuring that every child finds a place where they feel challenged and engaged. Additionally, tap dancing is a fun way for kids to express themselves, boosting their confidence as they master new rhythms and sequences.
The Expressive Freedom of Jazz Classes
Jazz dance, with its roots in African rhythms and European ballet, is a lively and expressive dance form that encourages individuality and improvisation. Jazz classes for kids introduce them to a world of fast-paced movements, high energy, and creative expression. This dance style is characterized by its versatility, incorporating elements from various dance forms to create something truly unique.
Why Jazz Dance?
Jazz dance is renowned for its ability to improve flexibility, strength, and endurance. The wide range of movements, from leaps and turns to kicks and slides, ensures a comprehensive physical workout that enhances a child's physical development. Furthermore, jazz dance encourages creative expression. Children are often given the space to interpret music in their own way, fostering creativity and a sense of artistic identity.
Jazz classes are a popular choice among children and parents alike. Dance schools across the country offer jazz programs that cater to beginners through to advanced levels. These classes not only teach dance techniques but also promote performance skills, as jazz often involves expressive facial and body movements that convey emotion and story.
When it comes to selecting a dance style for your child, consider their personality, interests, and physical abilities. Tap dancing might be the perfect fit for a child who loves music and rhythm, enjoys making noise, and is interested in the technical aspects of dance. On the other hand, jazz might appeal to a child who loves to express themselves, enjoys fast-paced activities, and is drawn to the performance aspect of dance.
It’s important to visit dance schools, talk to instructors, and even try a few trial classes in different styles to see what resonates most with your child. Remember, the goal is to nurture a love for dance, so choosing a style that excites and motivates them is key.
The world of kids' dance styles is as diverse and vibrant as the children who participate in them. Tap dancing and jazz are just two examples of how dance can enrich a child's life, offering not just physical benefits but also opportunities for emotional expression, creativity, and personal growth. Whether your child dreams of tapping their way across the stage or expressing their individuality through jazz, there’s a place for them in Australia’s dynamic dance community.
Encouraging your child to explore the world of dance is a gift that goes beyond physical activity; it’s an invitation to a lifelong journey of learning, expression, and joy. So, take the first step and introduce your child to the enriching world of dance, where every step, tap, and leap brings them closer to discovering their own unique rhythm and style.

An outdoor play park is a kids’ play area containing specialised equipment such as swings, slides, climbing frames and miniature houses. The ground is usually covered with something soft like bark chips so kids can run around safely.

Are outdoor play parks for your kid(s)?
Do your kids love playing outside, swinging from trees and playing hide and seek? They will probably enjoy spending time in an outdoor play park. There is usually seating around for parents to sit and chat and enjoy the fresh air while keeping an eye on the kids activities. Most Australian suburban areas have a play park although the type of equipment will vary from park to park.
Benefits of spending time at an outdoor play park include:
Plenty of fresh air and exercise. Remember to make sure your kids are protected from the summer sun and wear robust clothes they can run around in
Some play parks have small, shallow kids’ pools suitable for paddling and playing with boats rather than swimming. Always supervise kids near water, no matter how shallow
Playing with other kids encourages social development and learning to share
Encourages you to spend time with the kids outdoors.
Outdoor play parks can be used by kids of all ages but smaller children may find the noise and energy of a busy outdoor play park a bit overwhelming. Also little kids under 5 may not be able to use the equipment on their own as it is usually sized for kids around 6 and upwards. You may need to stand by and help them gain confidence on the slide but once they learn how to use it they will probably want to slide again and again!
Get your kids to an outdoor play park!
Are your kids up for a bit of rough and tumble? Do they have excess energy to burn off like most Australian kids? An outdoor play park could be ideal! In addition, they are usually free and can be found in your local park, making them generally easy to reach. Why not combine a visit to an outdoor play park with a family barbecue?
Other outdoor play park ideas you might like to try include fun parks, water parks and adventure parks but these may have either an entry fee which can start at around $30 per child or you might just have to pay on a per-ride basis. Whatever your kids’ favourite activities, you can find an outdoor play park that fits the bill! Check out our ActiveActivities Directory for a close outdoor play park!

Are wildlife parks for your kid(s)?
Do your kids love animals? If they enjoy being outdoors and love learning about nature and conservation, they might love a trip to a wildlife park. Australian wildlife parks, or wildlife centres are often run as part of wider rehabilitation or conservation programmes and allow visitors to observe and learn about a variety of different native and imported species of wildlife.
They are great places to visit for many reasons:
They give kids a chance to learn about and experience birds and animals in their native environment
They are a great way to support rehabilitation programmes for plants and rescued wildlife. Some are affiliated with conservation organisations such as the WWF
They can be fun and interesting as well as educational
Often wildlife parks host other activities for kids including theme parks, educational activities and adventure playgrounds
Some wildlife parks offer camping facilities which can be great for a peaceful family holiday
With so much to see and do at a wildlife park, your kids should enjoy the experience no matter what their age or interests! Wildlife parks are different from zoos in that the animals are usually roaming free under the protection of local authorities.
Are you thinking of heading to your closest wildlife park?
Don’t forget to check the weather! Wildlife parks are usually outdoors, so dress accordingly and take plenty of sunscreen and a hat. You might want to take a picnic but check what the rules are about bringing food into the park and make sure you don’t feed the animals and don’t leave any rubbish before leaving, as the animals may eat it and become ill! “Remember take nothing but memories, and leave nothing but footprints.”
Get your kids to a wildlife park during the next break!
Are you looking for an affordable day out for your kids? Wildlife parks generally cost between $10-$25 for admission and kids activities such as camping and tours may be extra. Many wildlife parks are located just outside city centres for easy access by public transport and road. Most are open all year round and are staffed by a combination of rangers and volunteers. Check out our ActiveActivities Directory for wildlife parks wherever you plan to go!
No wildlife park in your area? Other nature based activities your kids might enjoy include hiking, camping and angling in a national park or even in non-protected areas. You may still discover a wild animal or two along the way!

In addition to membership fees, you will probably need to pay an equipment levy of around $30 a year and purchase a uniform for your child to wear when they are participating in club events. Why bush walking is great in Victoria
The planet is seeing less forests, grasslands, and even deserts in favor of urbanisation and the growing global population. Fortunately, the state of Victoria has a lot of forests, urban and national parks and reserves, perfect for bush walking for the whole family. Opportunities for kids activities are limitless, provided it is done with adult supervision. In addition, the fresh air and the scenery is good for the health of both you and your kids.
The many options for bush walking activities for kids provided by the state of Victoria can generate a sense of spontaneity for kids, in comparison to the more grown up-focused hiking and camping environments in states like rocky NSW and forest-filled Queensland. There are enough activities for kids you can choose from, like walking trails, trekking, camping, and walking tours in Victoria. Hiking in Victoria would be excellent as well, for both kids and adults, provided you have the appropriate gear.
Bush walking for kids in Victoria is good exercise and is within the physical capabilities of many kids and adults. However, one will do better and enjoy it more if he or she is fit before going. The exercise needed is the kind that builds up the heart and circulatory system; walking, climbing stairs, swimming, cycling, and jogging.
If you are not walking with an experienced leader, get a map of the area and plan your route before starting. Try to estimate how long it will take and where you want to have lunch or camp. Someone in the party must be able to navigate. It is dangerous to go into the bush if you do not understand how to read a map. Many clubs will help members become proficient at navigation, plus they offer some of the best walks in Victoria. In addition, know the elements of first aid and carry a basic first aid kit at all times. Bush walking Victoria and other groups provide courses available in basic and advanced bush walking skills and first aid.
To ensure the safety of your children and/or toddlers coming along for the bush walks, trekking, camping, or any day trips in Victoria, the friendly volunteers from the non-profit organisation Bushwalking Victoria have a booklet detailing the safety guidelines that an inexperienced bushwalker must follow on walking trails and tracks, which can be downloaded for free from their website. Victoria's local government also advises to take proper caution from the sun, changing weather, and dangerous animals, as well as utilising your Medicare benefits and travel insurance.
How much would it cost in Victoria?
Bush walking is relatively costly, particularly with trekking gear, camping gear, and hiking gear, but it can be very cheap as well depending on the activity. When starting, not much equipment is needed, though it has to be chosen well. For day walking tours of Victoria you need a small pack but if you wish to camp overnight you will need a good sleeping bag and backpack, whilst a tent and stove can be shared with others. Additionally, the right clothing ensures you enjoy bush walking in both comfort and safety. Your clothing is your first line of protection from the cold, the wind, the rain, the sun, insects, snakes and the scrub. If you need help in choosing your equipment, you may ask the specialist shops and clubs in and around Victoria.

string(1414) "The cold winter months can prove to be a difficult time for kids birthday parties, especially if you live in a small unit or a house with limited indoor space.
So what do you do if your child wants to invite the whole class to their party and you don’t want to spend a fortune on hiring a room at a play centre? Here are 5 kids party ideas for boys and girls.
1. Limit the number of children to the age the birthday child is turning
Children are always so excited to turn a year older so if you base the theme of the event around the age they are turning this will make it easy for them to understand how many people they can invite. Say they are turning 8 you can put it to them like this, “ its so exciting that you are turning 8 this year! How about we make this birthday really special and focus on the number 8? We can invite 8 of your special friends and plan the decorations and the activities around the number 8!” Limiting the number of children to 8 will prevent any ill feeling from the people who aren’t invited because they have a real reason that is nothing to do with not being friends or not liking people. You can then plan the whole event around the number they are turning and make an 8 birthday cake for example and play 8 games, have 8 types of party food etc."
["content"]=>
string(5251) "
2. Have a sleep over party
A sleep over is another good way to limit the number of children invited to the party in exchange for a whole night of fun! Get the kids to bring sleeping bags or just make some beds on the floor out of doona’s….kids don’t really mind and let’s face it they probably won’t go to sleep too early! You can plan the evening around your child’s favourite movie and create the theme around that or make it a pyjama party. Play some party games like pass the parcel or twister, charades or have a dancing competition first to get them tired out and then set up the movie room with beanbags and popcorn and snacks. Make sure you plan some activities for them to do as well as the movie, like colouring in the characters in the movie or other craft type activities to keep them amused especially if they are in the 6-8 year age group and don’t like to sit still for long! Make sure you give the parents a pick up time in the morning that is not too late as it is likely most of them won’t have slept very well which means you probably won’t have slept very well either and you could be in for some challenging times in the morning!
3. Set up your own beauty salon
Throwing a spa party is a fabulous idea for girls from age 6. You will need to set the room up with different pampering stations such as a nail polish station, a hair station, foot spa station ( if you have foot spa’s) and a makeup station. You will need an adult or older sibling to attend to each station and you can split the party guests up to move around the room so that they receive the full pamper treatment. Once the girls are all done up with nails, hair and makeup you can set up a fashion parade and have the girls show off their glamorous new looks one at a time down the runway.
4. Create your own disco
You would be surprised how many children you can entertain in a small loungeroom with the right music and the right person running the disco games. Decorate the room with balloons, and disco lights and close the blinds to create the dark disco atmosphere. Make sure you select the songs that your child really loves and have a good loud sound system. If you can get your hands on a microphone it will save your voice from yelling over the top of the music. As the children arrive you can offer them coloured hair spray and create some funky hair looks for the disco. You can keep the dance party going for lengthy durations with fun dancing games like musical statues, the limbo, dancing competitions and even karaoke if you do have microphones. Make sure you create a list of games you are going to play and direct them smoothly from one to the next. This way you will keep them contained in the room and not running all over the house. Make sure to give them drink and food breaks and just keep the good songs coming!
5. Get Crafty and throw a Mr Maker Party or Lego Party
Most children enjoy art and craft so if you have access to a long table or a dining room table you can buy a whole lot of craft materials or get out all of the lego and base the party games around craft or lego building activities. Mr Maker is a fabulous idea generating show for different easy to make at home art and craft. You could even get the children to watch him doing an activity or making something and then have the children try to make it themselves. You will need to provide a selection of craft materials and then create activities or challenges for the children. For example set the timer and give them 5 minutes to build a house out of lego or 2 minutes to glue pieces of paper into the shape of a robot. Your child will be the best creative resource to consult with on the planning of activities for this type of party as their interests will help you to decide what challenges to create. If your child is into lego then create the challenges around building a boat out of lego or a car or a house etc. As long as the challenges are simple enough for all of the guests to attempt and enough time is given to complete each challenge, everyone should enjoy themselves. It will work best if you direct the children from one activity to the next as a group rather than allowing them to just sit with the craft or lego and have free play as they are not likely to stay focussed and will probably wander off. If they are guided from one activity to the next you will be able to keep them contained in the dining room or around the table until you are ready for them to move. The guests can then take their works of art home with them along with their party bags.

Why is chess in Sydney a great game for my kids?
Chess is a sport that has been around for hundreds of years, enjoyed and respected by nobility, Kings and Queens around the world throughout the ages. Today it's one of the most popular activities for kids in Sydney, with chess clubs in many schools as well as dedicated chess groups in most local areas.
Amongst the rainy day kids activities you could choose from, this one is sure to be more worth your family's time than any computer game.
There is of course chess online too, so your children can practice on the computer to become a junior chess champion if they like this popular board game enough!
Children and adults can play together and the game teaches fair sportsmanship when one person wins, or even when there is a draw. Chess is also a game that encourages logic and strategic thinking while having fun. Improving these skills can help your kids concentrate and achieve better results at school.
The New South Wales Chess Association runs a number of chess tournaments in Sydney, so if your youngsters enjoy chess, they can be encouraged and stay interested by going along watch these events. These also double as great family outings where you can spend quality time with your kids.
How can I get my kids started playing chess in Sydney?
There are a number of clubs for chess for kids in Sydney, whose junior competitions are open to join. Sydney chess competitions are usually categorized by age for kids, so it could also be a great way for your little ones to make friends.
Toddlers and young children can start with the simpler version of the game by learning checkers, which uses round pieces on a chess board and less complex rules.
Encourage your kids to play chess today!
Chess teams and other keen players of the game often post instructional videos online, showing how to play. You and your children can use these as a way of getting started - there are lots of YouTube videos that come up in simple searches.
Sydney chess venues are not the only ones around - chess is popular all over Australia too! So if your kids enjoy chess, they will have something in common with others everywhere they go.
Check the ActiveActivities directory today for a full listing of community centres and other groups where your kids can play chess with their friends today!

Indoor Party Venues:
Pros:
Weather-Proof: One of the most significant advantages of choosing an indoor party venue is that it eliminates the worry about unpredictable Australian weather. With sudden rain or intense heat being common occurrences, an indoor space provides a controlled environment where your child's party can proceed without a hitch.
Year-Round Availability: Regardless of the season, indoor party venues are open year-round, ensuring you have flexibility when planning your child's special day. Whether it's the scorching heat of summer or the chilly winter months, you won't need to stress about weather-related cancellations.
Themed Decor: Indoor venues often provide a blank canvas that you can transform into a magical wonderland according to your child's favorite theme. From fairy-tale castles to superhero lairs, indoor spaces can be easily adorned to create an enchanting atmosphere that adds to the party's excitement.
Cons:
Limited Space: While indoor venues offer weather protection, they might come with limited space compared to outdoor areas. If you're hosting a large party with numerous children, you'll need to consider whether the indoor venue can comfortably accommodate all the guests and activities you have in mind.
Noise Concerns: Depending on the venue's location and layout, noise restrictions could be a concern. Some indoor spaces may have limitations on amplified music or loud activities, which could impact the level of entertainment you intend to provide.
Ventilation: Proper ventilation is essential for indoor venues, especially when there's a group of energetic children involved. Make sure the venue has adequate airflow and cooling systems, particularly during the warmer months, to ensure everyone stays comfortable.
Outdoor Party Venues:
Pros:
Natural Setting: Outdoor party venues provide a refreshing change of scenery, immersing children in the beauty of nature. Whether it's a park, garden, or beach, the outdoors offer a sense of adventure and exploration that can contribute to a memorable experience.
Spacious Environment: Outdoor venues often offer more space to accommodate games, activities, and a larger number of guests. Children can run around freely, engaging in games like tag, sack races, and scavenger hunts, promoting physical activity and social interaction.
Unique Themes: Some outdoor venues come with built-in party themes, such as beach parties or picnics. These themes can inspire creative ideas for decorations, games, and activities that align perfectly with the natural surroundings.
Cons:
Weather Uncertainty: Australia's weather can be unpredictable, and outdoor parties are susceptible to sudden changes. Rain or excessive heat can put a damper on the festivities, causing potential disruptions and the need for backup plans.
Logistical Considerations: Hosting an outdoor party requires more planning and coordination. You'll need to arrange for seating, shade, restroom facilities, and possibly permits depending on the chosen location.
Allergen Exposure: Outdoor venues may expose children to allergens like pollen, insects, and grass. It's essential to be mindful of potential allergens and take necessary precautions to ensure all children are safe and comfortable.
Conclusion:
When it comes to choosing between indoor and outdoor party venues for kids, both options offer unique advantages and challenges. Indoor venues provide a controlled environment with protection against weather fluctuations, allowing for creative decorations and themed parties. On the other hand, outdoor venues offer a natural, spacious setting that encourages physical activity and exploration.
Ultimately, the decision should be based on your child's preferences, the size of the guest list, and your comfort level with potential weather-related uncertainties. Consider engaging your child in the decision-making process, as their excitement and preferences can guide you toward the perfect party venue.
Remember, whether you opt for an indoor space or an outdoor oasis, what truly matters is the joy and laughter shared among children as they celebrate another milestone in their journey of growth and discovery. Happy party planning!

Awesome, Joyful Singing Groups

To hear the sound of Rachael's group classes singing along with her, singing gorgeous songs the kids have written themselves (with Rachael's expert help) is a joy to behold. To hear children express themselves so freely and be having so much fun with it is very touching actually, and makes you realise how much more expression there is in every day, to bring. These classes help encourage that - just awesome!! Highly recommended.
Answer from Connected Voice on 08-10-2018:
Thank you Ben. Holding these group singing classes for children is an absolute joy. They are so naturally expressive and remind us adults how simple expressing ourselves really is.

Both our kids have been attending Superspeak for close to two years now. We are able to see our kids improving in their public speaking skills and being more confident speaking in front of a small group. Nice small setting classes. Feedback from their school class teachers do show that Superspeak indeed has helped developed their soft skills as well. We look forward to see our kids continue to grow with Superspeak. Thank you Vicki and Amy!
