The Main Exhibition Building is where you will discover how the NSW railways brought life to town and country. Learn about life on the lines and in the workshops, marvel at some of the engineering and design achievements of the railways, find out how signals and points keep the lines safe, walk the timeline of rail development from the invention of the very first steam powered engine to today, and see how the railways revolutionised tourism and leisure travel in Australia. Carss Cottage is a beautiful old sandstone Cottage built by William Carss between 1863 and 1865 for his retirement. It is now a Museum displaying and preserving historical items from the late 1800's early 1900's, particularly local history and is run by Kogarah Historical Society. The Museum opens every Sunday from 1pm to 5pm, in summer months, 1pm-4pm in winter and at other times for booked tours.
