Will your kids like joining communities?
Let your kids develop social awareness in their own way. Engage your kids to activities for kids that will teach them to become responsible persons. Kids community activities are good ways to make use of their time productively. Through this they will be able to contribute to community development and also learn important values.
Social Development Let your kids go out and interact with other kids! Participating in kids community activities allow them to practice their socialisation skills in order for them to grow up as outgoing persons.
Awareness Some school educational trips visit communities to do charity work and community service. They sometimes go to nature trips where they help plant trees and learn proper waste management. Exposing them to kids activities like these help develop sensitivity towards their surroundings and the situation of other people around them.
Maturity and Responsibility Becoming aware of the other social situations and issues will make them become more mature and responsible. Knowing the dangers that threaten the nature will encourage them to value it more and be more mindful of where they throw their trash. Being sensitive towards the needs of others also will lead to respecting them.
Community Participation Children?s community and other organizations offer many suggestions on how kids can contribute in their own way. They can put up lemonade stands and sell homemade cookies to raise funds, all for a good cause. They can also experience community participation through simple ways like helping in carrying groceries, walking the neighbour?s dog, or helping an elderly cross the road.
Introduce community service to your kids by starting at home. Carry out on them positive family values like helping with house chores and respecting and caring for each other. Praise and reward them for every action so they would be inspired to exert more effort.
They can also join community child care centres and organizations that are non-profit for children to experience and learn more about community development and outreach programs. These centres and organizations build awareness to kids by getting them to be active in community service such as donating old toys and clothes to the needy, making handicrafts out of recyclable materials, and forming a litter patrol on the local park.
There are also non-profit volunteer groups around Australia that hold community development programs that aim to improve the health, development, and well-being of kids 0-12 years old as well as their families. Their programs include parent education, playgroups, programs for young parents, and home visiting. They help the kids and their families identify needs or problems and develop strategies in order to solve them. They also empower the whole community to take collective actions to solve common problems. You can browse our ActiveActivities Directory for a list of non-profit organizations in Australia and more tips on community development for kids.
Kids are our future; and they can contribute to a better future by training them to be socially aware as early as possible. Let them contribute to the community in their own little way!

Are wildlife parks for your kid(s)?
Do your kids love animals? If they enjoy being outdoors and love learning about nature and conservation, they might love a trip to a wildlife park. Australian wildlife parks, or wildlife centres are often run as part of wider rehabilitation or conservation programmes and allow visitors to observe and learn about a variety of different native and imported species of wildlife.
They are great places to visit for many reasons:
They give kids a chance to learn about and experience birds and animals in their native environment
They are a great way to support rehabilitation programmes for plants and rescued wildlife. Some are affiliated with conservation organisations such as the WWF
They can be fun and interesting as well as educational
Often wildlife parks host other activities for kids including theme parks, educational activities and adventure playgrounds
Some wildlife parks offer camping facilities which can be great for a peaceful family holiday
With so much to see and do at a wildlife park, your kids should enjoy the experience no matter what their age or interests! Wildlife parks are different from zoos in that the animals are usually roaming free under the protection of local authorities.
Are you thinking of heading to your closest wildlife park?
Don’t forget to check the weather! Wildlife parks are usually outdoors, so dress accordingly and take plenty of sunscreen and a hat. You might want to take a picnic but check what the rules are about bringing food into the park and make sure you don’t feed the animals and don’t leave any rubbish before leaving, as the animals may eat it and become ill! “Remember take nothing but memories, and leave nothing but footprints.”
Get your kids to a wildlife park during the next break!
Are you looking for an affordable day out for your kids? Wildlife parks generally cost between $10-$25 for admission and kids activities such as camping and tours may be extra. Many wildlife parks are located just outside city centres for easy access by public transport and road. Most are open all year round and are staffed by a combination of rangers and volunteers. Check out our ActiveActivities Directory for wildlife parks wherever you plan to go!
No wildlife park in your area? Other nature based activities your kids might enjoy include hiking, camping and angling in a national park or even in non-protected areas. You may still discover a wild animal or two along the way!

Will Your Kids Enjoy the Scouts?
It doesn't matter whether your kids are nature lovers, sports fanatics, science geeks or just like being outdoors and making new friends, Scouts could be for them! Scout Groups are available throughout the country for boys and girls aged 6 - 25 so no matter where you live there is likely to be one in your area.
Benefits might include:
Survival skills - through exciting outdoor activities and adventures
Education - especially on nature and the outdoors
Healthy - lots of exercise and fresh air
Teamwork - huge emphasis on group activities and cooperation
Values and morals - promotes the benefits of helping others
Confidence - gained through learning and achieving
Non-competitive - allows kids to develop at their own pace
Through Scouts kids work towards badges of achievement in a number of different areas at their own pace. They receive a patch or emblem which is sewn on to their uniform each time they earn a new badge. Due to the non-competitive ethos of Scouts, it can be a great activity for kids with additional needs or quieter personalities. At the same time there is plenty of opportunity for kids activities and leadership within Scouts so confident kids will excel. No matter what your kid's personality or level of development, joining the Scouts might help them find their niche and make friends.
How to Organise Scouting Activities for Your Kids
Scouts have a number of programs and activities for kids of different ages and each level has a guide, or group leader who teaches the children:
Joey Scouts - age 6-8
Cub Scouts - age 7.5 -11
Scouts - 10.5 - 15
Venturer Scouts - 14.5 - 17.5
Rovers - 17.5 - 25
You can start your child in scouts at any age from 6. Costs are usually fairly minimal and usually take the form of a yearly subscription. Uniform costs are additional and you will need to purchase a shirt, scarf and woggle for your child. To find out whether there is a scout group in your area check out our ActiveActivities directory or the Scouts Australia website.

The Boys' Brigade vs. Scouts vs. Cadets: What’s the Difference?
As a parent, you want the best for your kids, and when it comes to extracurricular activities, you have a ton of options. Three popular choices are The Boys' Brigade, Scouts, and Cadets. But how do these organizations stack up against each other? Let’s dive into the nitty-gritty and help you decide which one might be the best fit for your child!
What is The Boys' Brigade?
The Boys' Brigade (BB) has been around since 1883, and it's all about nurturing kids aged 5 to 18 in a wholesome environment. The program emphasizes spiritual development, discipline, and teamwork through a mix of fun activities like camping, sports, and crafts. Plus, there’s a focus on community service, which teaches kids about helping others and becoming responsible citizens.
What About Scouts?
On the other hand, Scouts is a globally recognized organization that encourages kids aged 6 to 25 to learn practical skills through outdoor adventures, teamwork, and leadership. The Scouts program is all about fostering independence and resilience in children. Think camping trips, hiking, and learning survival skills—all while making friends and having a great time!
And What are Cadets?
Now, let’s talk about Cadets. This organization is often associated with military-style training and is aimed mostly at kids aged 12 to 18. Cadets focus on discipline, leadership, and teamwork, but with a more structured approach. Think about learning drill commands, conducting parades, and engaging in adventurous activities like navigation and survival skills. It’s a great fit for kids interested in the military or wanting to build strong leadership skills.
Key Differences
So, what’s the main difference between these organizations? Here’s a quick breakdown:
Focus: The Boys' Brigade is rooted in spiritual and moral development, Scouts emphasizes skill-building and adventure, while Cadets provide military-style training.
Age Groups: The Boys' Brigade caters to younger children and teenagers, Scouts welcomes kids from 6 to 25 years old, and Cadets are for ages 12 to 18.
Activities: All three offer a mix of fun activities, but the nature of those activities varies: BB focuses more on community service, Scouts on outdoor skills, and Cadets on military-style training.
Which One is Right for Your Child?
Choosing between The Boys' Brigade, Scouts, or Cadets ultimately depends on what you envision for your child. If they thrive in a structured setting with a focus on moral values, The Boys' Brigade might be the way to go. If they love outdoor adventures and learning practical skills, then Scouts could be the perfect fit. And if your child is interested in leadership and military-style training, Cadets would be an excellent choice.
Final Thoughts
All these organizations provide fantastic opportunities for kids to learn, grow, and make lasting memories. Regardless of which path you choose, you can rest assured that your child will be gaining valuable skills and experiences. So, take some time to explore each option, perhaps attend a few introductory sessions, and see where your child feels most at home!

Will Your Kids Enjoy Going to a Camp?
Does your child have a particular hobby or interest they would like to pursue further? Do you need to find care for them while you work during the holidays? Either way, enrolling them in a summer or school holiday camp may keep everyone happy and allow them to have fun, meet new friends and involve themselves in a range of very Australian activities for kids.
The most popular summer camps include:
Sport camps (for example, soccer, tennis, surf camps). These are great for improving your child's sporting prowess, fitness and health.
Arts or music camps (drama, art, singing, dancing). These can be relaxing for your child and allow them to indulge their creative tendencies.
Adventure camps (outdoor activities, survival skills, camping). Great for confidence building and learning on nature.
Weight loss camps (for children who struggle with weight issues). Can provide a supportive environment for kids and teach them on nutrition and exercise.
Camps run by organizations (such as the Scouts or the YMCA) that offer a broad program of activities to entertain kids and help improve confidence.
How to Organise a Camp Visit for Your Kids
The age range of camps varies but they are generally targeted at school aged children. Often they are divided into different groups according to age and some may be aimed more specifically for teens or younger children. There are a number of camps for girls only and others that are targeted at boys or both.
Summer camps are generally only available during the Australian school holidays and they are closed during term times. Costs vary but generally you can expect to pay between $15-$100 per day depending on location and range of kids activities offered.
To find a summer camp in your area, check our ActiveActivities directory or ask other parents for recommendations.

Will your kids enjoy the YMCA?
Are your kids interested in playing sports, making new friendships or learning new skills? With activities for kids ranging from martial arts to drawing and plenty in between there will probably be something at the YMCA for them. The YMCA is aimed at helping children develop a healthy spirit, mind and body and activities can start at a very young age with child care and preschool education programs as well as camp and weekend activities for older children. Members of the YMCA can even take advantage of cheap hotel and backpacking facilities when they are travelling. Other benefits include:
A chance to make new friends for children and their parents
Opportunities for children to learn new skills and develop their interests in a supportive environment
Regular social events for the entire family to meet other families and have fun
A chance to be part of a community
Access to a range of community initiatives including support services, disability services and educational help for kids who are struggling
A chance to travel and get involved with international activities through a world alliance of centres and networks
Becoming a member can give you discounts off a number of other services including recreational activities and leisure centres
Want to take your baby to their first swimming lesson? The YMCA offers an AquaSafe program for children aged 6 months up. Through a range of other activities very young children can explore and discover new interests such as gymnastics, music and art and older children and teenagers can develop their leadership skills and help the community.
How can you organise YMCA activities for your kids?
Not sure if there’s a YMCA centre near you? There are YMCA centres all over Australia and a quick look on ActiveActivities Directory should uncover your closest one along with a list of the activities and services they provide. There is an annual membership fee and assistance is available for those with disabilities, indigenous Australians and those who are in financial hardship.
YMCA centres are open all year round and many of their activities run during term times. You can join at any time but if you want to book your child in for a term program it is a good idea to book early. If there’s no YMCA in your area you can check out similar voluntary associations like youth centres and sports federations for activities for your child.
No matter what your child loves to do, let the YMCA help!

How to Secure Your Active Kids Vouchers
Starting Term 1, 2024, the NSW Government, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Government, will begin issuing the new Active and Creative Kids vouchers. This initiative targets NSW families eligible for the Family Tax Benefit Part A, enabling nearly 600,000 school-aged children (out of a total 1.35 million in NSW) to benefit from a wide array of active and creative pursuits.
Each voucher, valued at $50, will be available twice annually, aligning with the start of terms 1 and 3. This ensures that children have continuous opportunities throughout the year to explore a variety of activities, from sports to creative arts, previously supported by the Active Kids program.
With an annual investment of approximately $28 million, this revamped voucher program is a testament to the NSW Government's dedication to nurturing the physical and creative development of young residents. By reducing financial barriers, this initiative promises to enrich the lives of families and encourage a culture of active and healthy living among the youth of NSW.

Are you worried on the lack of activities for kids in your area? It might be worth checking out your local youth centre. Youth centres offer a wide variety of kids' activities for older kids and teenagers including educational and recreational programs, group discussions, sports coaching and life skills courses. Many of them provide a place where kids can drop in and hang out with friends in a safe environment. Some of the benefits of youth centres include:
Social - kids have the opportunity to spend time with others their own age and also responsible adults.
Study support - lots of youth centres offer support programs for kids who are struggling academically or are stressed out with exam pressure.
A chance to explore new interests through leisure and recreational programs.
Opportunity to increase fitness by becoming involved in a sporting activity or joining a team.
Increased confidence from having a support network and also through educational programs designed to strengthen kids' health and wellbeing and maximize their potential.
Safety - youth centres can provide a drug and alcohol free environment for children who might otherwise be exposed to unfortunate influences.
Information sharing - youth centres offer older kids the opportunity to meet a range of people and share experiences and gain knowledge from the experience of others.
If your kids are aged 10 - 21 and interested in becoming part of an active community of kids and young adults, a youth centre might make a positive contribution to their development and education.
How Do You Organise Youth Centre Activities for Your Kids?
Not sure where to start? There will probably be a youth centre in your area so the best thing to do is give them a call and see what facilities and activities they have that might suit your child. Youth workers are always around to help your child if they want to just drop in and most activities are free of charge.
It is a good idea to check the opening hours before you go as some youth centres are only open during the afternoons or early evenings and many are closed on weekends.

In today’s fast-paced and ever-changing world, fostering strong leadership skills in kids is more important than ever. Parents and carers often seek programs and activities that not only engage their children but also equip them with valuable life skills. One such organization that stands out in this regard is The Boys' Brigade. This esteemed youth association has been a cornerstone in the development of young leaders for generations. Let’s delve into how The Boys' Brigade in Australia builds character and hones leadership skills in children.
Nurturing Responsibility and Accountability
The Boys' Brigade is more than just a youth club; it's a training ground for future leaders. One of the primary ways it achieves this is by instilling a sense of responsibility and accountability in children. From a young age, kids in The Boys' Brigade are given various roles and responsibilities within their groups. These roles range from simple tasks like organizing equipment to more significant positions such as team leaders or event coordinators.
This structured approach ensures that every child understands the importance of their contribution to the group's success. By being responsible for specific tasks, children learn to be accountable for their actions. This not only builds their confidence but also teaches them the value of dependability and trustworthiness—key traits of effective leaders.
Parents often notice a remarkable transformation in their children as they take on these responsibilities. A once shy and reserved child might become more outspoken and proactive, demonstrating initiative both within the brigade and at home. This shift is a testament to the comprehensive character-building approach of The Boys' Brigade.
Encouraging Teamwork and Collaboration
Leadership is not just about taking charge; it's also about working well with others. The Boys' Brigade places a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration, recognizing that effective leaders must be able to unite and motivate their peers. Through a variety of group activities, games, and projects, children learn to work together towards common goals.
These activities are designed to challenge kids in a supportive environment, pushing them out of their comfort zones while fostering a sense of camaraderie. Whether it's a group hike, a community service project, or a team-building exercise, children quickly learn that success is often the result of collective effort and cooperation.
In these collaborative settings, children also develop essential communication skills. They learn to listen actively, articulate their ideas clearly, and respect diverse perspectives. These skills are invaluable not only in leadership roles but also in everyday interactions. The Boys' Brigade effectively prepares kids to navigate social dynamics with confidence and empathy.
For parents and carers, seeing their children thrive in these collaborative environments is incredibly rewarding. It reassures them that their kids are developing the social skills necessary to build strong, positive relationships throughout their lives.
Developing Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Abilities
A significant aspect of leadership is the ability to think critically and solve problems efficiently. The Boys' Brigade excels in nurturing these skills through its varied programs and activities. Children are regularly presented with challenges that require them to think on their feet, assess situations, and devise practical solutions.
For instance, during outdoor adventures like camping trips or survival skills workshops, children must apply their knowledge and ingenuity to overcome obstacles. These real-world scenarios provide invaluable lessons in resilience and adaptability. Kids learn that setbacks are opportunities for growth and that perseverance is key to overcoming difficulties.
Additionally, The Boys' Brigade encourages reflective thinking through discussions and debriefings after activities. Children are prompted to consider what worked well, what could be improved, and how they can apply these lessons in the future. This reflective practice is crucial in developing a mindset geared towards continuous improvement—a hallmark of effective leaders.
Parents often observe their children becoming more analytical and thoughtful as they progress through the program. These young leaders start to approach problems with a solution-oriented mindset, a skill that will serve them well in all areas of life.
In conclusion, The Boys' Brigade in Australia offers an exceptional platform for children to develop into confident, responsible, and capable leaders. Through a well-rounded approach that emphasizes responsibility, teamwork, and critical thinking, this youth club equips kids with the skills they need to succeed in various facets of life.
For parents and carers, The Boys' Brigade represents a valuable opportunity to invest in their children's future. By enrolling their kids in this esteemed youth association, they are providing them with a foundation of character and leadership that will last a lifetime.
As you consider activities and programs for your child, think about the transformative impact The Boys' Brigade can have. It’s not just about keeping children engaged; it’s about shaping them into the leaders of tomorrow. And in a world that needs strong, ethical, and innovative leaders, there’s no better place to start than The Boys' Brigade.

Is Girls Brigade for your kids?
If your daughter is of school age (age five and above), she can join your local Church?s Girls Brigade group. Let her attend the meeting every week and experience a fun and non-competitive program. The Girls Brigade uniform will also give her a sense of belonging. The leaders are good role models and are also well-trained.
The Girls Brigade program is intended to be challenging, relevant, and interactive, allowing your daughter to grow in every aspect of her life. The program follows four themes which are Spiritual, Physical, Educational, and Service. When abbreviated, these words form SPES, which is Latin for hope. Each member of the brigade is a hope for the future.
Through Girls Brigade, you can keep your daughters active in many ways. They will get to participate in kids activities, play games, go on camps, do craft and cooking projects, form a youth ministry band, and most of all learn Biblical truths. Accomplished activities for kids will be rewarded by badges or special awards. Joining the girls Brigade will also provide them with skills they can apply to their community, family, and Church life.
Most of all, your kids will get to be with other girls and do fun things together!
Girls Brigade groups are divided into four, according to age. In Australia, there are four sections or unit. Girls from 5 to 7 years old are Cadets.
When they reach 8 to 11 years, they will become Juniors, 12 to 13 years old are Seniors, and Pioneers when they reach 14 to 21 years old. When they reach 15 years old, they are encouraged to attend Leadership Training Courses. As of now, Australia has 5,703 Girls Brigade organisations. What's great about a community centre?
Community centres for kids provide generous amounts of space for fun and learning. This is similar to many professional service providers for kids such as day care, amusement centres and games halls; however a significant difference with community centres is that they are often run without the goal of making any financial profit.
Community centres are often run by volunteers and local community groups. Often the aim is to encourage families to spend time together, which benefits everyone from toddlers right through to older children and adults. A community centre may double as a multi-function community hall, providing party venues, hall hire and good quality function rooms at a low cost to other non-profit organisations.
Very importantly, in regional and remote areas of Australia, a community centre may actually be the only venue which offers kids activities at a low cost - or at all. Not every town has a sufficient population to support multiple services, so it becomes even more vital for the local community to unite and take part in events which support the wellbeing of families and growing children.
Why should my kids get involved in community centres?
When there are fun and educational activities for kids on offer, there's no reason not to take advantage of it. But an added element to events being held at community centres is the fact that they will often be put on by community organisations which are raising money for a noble cause, such as terminal illness, local school equipment or victims of natural disasters.
Getting your kids involved in good-willed causes like these at school fetes or local community festivals are a great way to encourage selfless service, and nurture their values of generosity and compassion. They are often also a great way to spend quality family time together!
What should I do to get my kids into community centres?
Find out together what community programmes or community services are running in your local area, such as the Rotary group (this is one which is Australia wide). These organisations meet at community centres, so you can get involved with them, as well as checking out notice boards at the centre for other events and groups when you visit.
And of course, you can check the ActiveActivities directory right now for a full listing of community centres for kids all over Australia!

Is Joeys for your kid(s)?
Does your child think a Joey is just a baby kangaroo? The Joeys are also a junior branch of Scouts Australia, which aims to provide a variety of activities for kids aged 6 and 7. If your child loves the outdoors, likes adventure and has an inquisitive mind, he or she might love the Joeys. Joeys can form a great basis for lifelong involvement in the Scouts or it can be a fun after school activity in its own right. Other benefits include:
Allows kids to be part of a community and get extra support
Builds self confidence through working towards badges and achieving their goals
Teaches kids values such as co-operation, sharing and helping others
Gets kids outdoors into the fresh air
Educational – teaches kids about nature and science as well as life skills
Is your child aged 6 or 7? If you are looking for something to do with him or her that provides a broad range of kids activities, Joeys might be just the thing! No matter what your kids are interested in there will probably be something to suit them and the Joeys’ educational programs may help with your child’s development. Joeys even have camps where kids can go and learn about the Australian bush and survival skills.
Joeys is quite structured so if your children are not fond of rules, they might find it a bit of a challenge. They will be expected to make a pledge or promise and abide by the ‘law’ laid down by the organisation. Joeys can be a great way to help kids learn about being part of a community and help guide them on their way to becoming productive members of society. Many schools these days are recommending children join the joeys or scouts groups. As the foundations and development opportunities of these organisations provide an atmosphere is which every child can benefit and prosper.
Get your kids to start Joeys!
If you are looking for more information about Joeys, why not start with a look at our Check out our ActiveActivities Directory ? Similar community based kids activities include the YMCA and Scouts for older children. Joeys is usually very affordable with only a small annual fee payable. Kids will need a uniform and camps and supplementary activities may cost extra. Send your kids bouncing off to Joeys!

The first Boys Brigade in Australia was formed in Melbourne in 1890. As of now, there are approximately 500,000 Boys Brigade members in 60 countries.
The Boys Brigade Object is “The promotion of habits of Obedience, Discipline, Self-Respect, and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness,” and its motto is “Sure and Stedfast,” derived from Hebrews 6:19 of the Bible: “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast?” it pursues to provide a meaningful and enjoyable program that will balance the educational, physical, social, and spiritual areas of the members' life. It aims lead them into a healthy life dedicated to God's service by leading a sound Christian lifestyle.

Is Boys Brigade for your kids?
When your son reaches the age of 5, you can already let him join the Boys Brigade in your local Church. The brigade is of Christian foundation but it trains boys from all backgrounds, religions, abilities, and interests. They are also trained to follow the footsteps of Christ in terms of serving the community and becoming good leaders. It is all about anchoring a firm faith in all the Boys. It also aims for the Boys to have fun, be challenged, and experience adventure.
The Boys Brigade helps kids to attain growth in four aspects:
Educationally
The Boys will learn so many things that will not learn in school. They will gain wisdom from the words of the Lord and from the activities they participate in.
Physically
The organisation have activities for kids like camping, community service, sports, and other outdoor adventures that will keep them active even during school holidays like summer breaks. The activities will also help them strengthen their friendship with others.
Spiritually
Being of a Christian foundation, the Boys will learn Biblical truths that they can apply in their family, social, and Church life. It will also inspire them to share the Word to others and take part in Sunday School and other Church activities.
Socially
Being in the Boys Brigade allows your son to interact with other boys perhaps coming from different backgrounds, beliefs, and social status. It will teach them to accept one another as they are. It will also teach them to become efficient and helpful to the Church, the neighbourhood, and their family.
The Boys are divided into sections depending on their age. As they grow older and achieve milestones, they advance to the next level. Boys around 5 to 7 years old are called Anchors. When they reach 8 to 11 years old, they become Juniors, and then Seniors when they are 12 to 18 years old. The Seniors are further divided into two groups: Alpha for 12 to 14 year old Boys and Omega for 15 to 18. These sections ensure that your kids are developed into better citizens during their growing years.
The main award that the Boys Brigade gives is the Queen's Badge – it is given to those who have practised all the principles that the organisation promotes. Badges and special awards are rewarded for the kids activities that the Boys complete. Each of them is given an arm band where they can attach their awards and badges.
There is also the Girls Brigade for your daughters! It has almost the same principles and objectives – to make better citizens and leaders out of young ones and to serve and become followers of Christ. It promotes a just society where there is equality. Girls around the tage of 5 until 21 can join the Girls Brigade.
You can browse our ActiveActivities Directory for more youth organisations that your kids can join, as well as other tips about growing kids.
To become good leaders, your kids must also be good followers. Let them set a good example to other kids. Get them to join the Girls and Boys Brigade!

The aim of Cubs for kids is for the cubs to have fun while learning. It also aims for their physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual development. Its mission is to contribute to the education of young people, to help build a better world, where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in the community. It trains them to be always prepared for any situation they might face.
The Cubs programmes include kids activities that are done outdoors including cubs games, camping, woodcraft, first aid, swimming, hiking, and sports. For all the activities for kids that the cubs will complete, they will earn badges and special awards that will help them advance to the next level. These badges are called boomerangs and Grey Wolf Award. The boomerangs are acquired by completing mandatory activities from the Cub Scout Handbook ? the bronze boomerang for 8 year old cubs, the silver for 9 year old cubs, and the gold boomerang for the 10 year old cubs. The Grey Wolf Award is the highest level badge, similar to the Australian Scout Medallion. Cubs who received the gold boomerang and completed the Cub Leadership Award can receive the Grey Wolf Award. There are also other special badges. This is a fun way of keeping your kids active and busy. Let them be part of the Cubs!

Will Your Kids Enjoy Hip Hop Dance?
For cool kids who like to be on the edge, hip hop dance can be a great form of exercise and has many other benefits including:
Improved strength and fitness through regular exercise
Enhanced social skills from meeting other children and learning as a group
Better co-ordination from learning to perform complicated moves
Fun - hip hop is great fun for kids of all ages who like to move to the beat!
Hip hop dance is one of the more energetic kids activities for kids and may be ideal for those who enjoy performing and like to challenge themselves. The edgy urban image often associated with hip hop and break dance can give kids a boost to their self esteem and help them feel more confident socially.
How to Organise Hip Hop Dance Lessons for Your Kids!
Formal Hip Hop lessons start around age 5 for beginners, with students progressing from simple dance steps up to more complex moves such as breaking, locking, popping and krumping. There are a number of Australian dance schools that offer a hip hop dance class. Most kids begin to learn in the studio of a dance academy and progress to street dance competitions if they feel inclined.
Hip hop dance lessons vary in cost but you can usually expect to pay around $15-$20 for a group session with a qualified teacher.
Specific dancewear generally includes loose fitting clothing and comfortable running shoes. Make sure your child's shoes are clean - it's a good idea to purchase specific running shoes for indoor use only so you don't mark the floor of the studio. If your child progresses to the stage where they perform in shows or want to attend auditions there may be specific costumes you'll need to purchase.
Don't Miss These Hip Hop Dance Stars and Events!
Street dance contests are popular and the main event is the annual Hip Hop international Australian Dance Championships where elite street dancers compete to perform a winning hip hop dance routine before a team of judges. This is usually held in February with winners qualifying to compete in the American Dance Championships.

Are Self-Defence Clubs For Your Kid(s)?
Do you want your children to know how to handle themselves in tough situations? Afraid that your kids will have trouble with bullies in school? or maybe just learn about self-control? Let them join self-defence clubs!
Self-defence clubs take pride in teaching their students to defend physically and mentally, and keep control of themselves while facing stressful situations. They combine different styles of martial arts in order to come up with a set of non-aggressive moves that take advantage of an attacker's momentum. That way, smaller children can handle threats from older children or even adults.
Other benefits include:
Learn techniques to avoid physical confrontations
Besides teaching students to defend themselves physically, self-defence clubs for kids typically teach their students other ways of self-protection, like how to handle aggressive behaviour from others verbally.
Improve physique
Self-defence involves a lot of martial arts training which help improve focus, balance, coordination and overall fitness.
Improve discipline
Self-Defence classes for kids normally teach them to be disciplined by teaching them when to use their skills and when not to.
What kinds of self-defence can your kids learn? Besides self-defence oriented styles of martial arts like jujitsu and self-defence sports like muay thai and boxing, special instructors can also teach them Reality-Based Personal Protection training. It specializes in teaching students how to defend themselves in realistic situations like crime survival and terrorism survival.Children's self-defence can start as early as 5 years old. Toddlers are normally not advised to engage in the activity.
Get Your Kids to Start Joining Self-Defence Clubs!
Where can you learn? Self-Defence kids activities can be taught in a martial arts school and they normally require martial arts supply.

Martial arts gear for self-defence activities for kids:
