Aikido lessons for adults and kids from 6yrs - adults.(see site for details).
Aiki Kids is a blend of traditional Aikido adapted to suit younger kids and modern exercises designed to help develop the co-ordination and balance of the developing nervous system.
The classes are taught by Matt Teale who is 5th dan Aikido who has over 30 years of experience. In addition, he is a father, medical doctor and acupuncturist and a qualified practitioner of INPP (a movement based program for neuro-development in kids). He is assisted by Miltos Teale (1st degree black belt) who has been training in Aikido since the age of 7 himself. Miltos therefore has personal experience of the kids class from the inside out.
Aikido is a great activity for kids where they learn athletic skills including rolling, jumping and falling safely while developing muscle tone, co-ordination, self-discipline, confidence and self-defence in a non-competitive, non-aggressive, fun but focused environment.
Unfortunately, bullying seems to be an increasing problem and learning martial arts involving punching and kicking in an aggressive or competitive environment could be seen as counter productive in some ways. Aikido by its nature, develops coping strategies to deal with confrontation in a non-aggressive manor and encourages resilience and flexibility as well as respect for one another. There is no tolerance for bullying and as each technique is practiced from the position of attacker and defender (thrower and thrown), students naturally learn to treat others as they would like to be treated themselves. Because there is no competition, younger kids learn to deal with people much bigger than themselves and older kids learn to be sensitive and considerate to people smaller than themselves.
The younger kids class focuses more on motor skills and self awareness. Leading into the older age group where more formal martial arts techniques are taught in an atmosphere of lively, vigorous, traditional training

Kids can come and try one session for free before enrolling in the class.
Then the membership is only $55 per child, per month to come to as many classes as they want. We have classes for 6-8 years and 9-14 years old as well as 15 - adults
Learn confidence, co-ordination, balance, athletic abilities and self-defense in a non-aggressive, friendly and supportive environment.
Parents are encouraged to join in with the 6-8 year old age group (all though not essential). This creates a calm, focused environment for the kids to have fun and learn more complex skills.
